Ive found a connector that wasn't connected, I think its the power steering sensor which comes out the back of the powersteering reservoir, but I cant find another connector that its meant to go to, I presume it ends up at the ECM can anyone advise?

There's no power steering sensor on the US cars. I can't think of what that would be. I just did an engine swap and don't know what on the harness would be there. Some unused option?

I think my WRX has a wire coming off the PS pump? I think it's so ODBII can monitor the fluid levels.

You're not in North America, are you?

It's possible that your car does have a power steering pressure sensor. Early Imprezas did here although BC/BF Legacies didn't. The sensor on Imprezas does connect to the ECU.

I think the purpose is to make sure the engine idles at a speed high enough to provide sufficient power steering assist whenever it's needed. North American BC/BFs do this just by raising idle speed when vehicle speed is low but nonzero.

Wait a minute... doing a search for other posts you've made shows that your car is a 1990 Legacy GT. I'm almost positive that your ECU doesn't have a pressure sensor input. Is it possible that at some point along the line your power steering pump was replaced with one that's also meant to fit Subarus that do use the sensor?

My JDM BF has a sensor coming off the p/s pump. No idea what it does.

My power steering pump was replaced with a late model Legacy pump which has the threaded section for the sensor as well.

yeah mine is a 1990 GT legacy, and Im in new zealand (jap import prob) im not sure if its standard. I'll have to get the part number off it and see. The haynes manual says it is a pressure sensor for idle purposes but not where it goes or is connected. Its just my idle is strange fine untill I put it into gear, drops really low and usually stalls. I know this could be many things (manifold vaccums etc) just trying to eliminate things as I go.
