Hi Guys,
Totally new to forums and Turbo Ru's.
Anyways it's my wifes car and it is making a wooshing noise when I part throttle it ... it starts at 2K and stops by 3K or if I WOT the car, it won't woosh while acceling but will on decel at any rpm...... I am suspect of the wastegate on the stock turbo but Im just not sure of it.
Also car only has 60K kms (Grandma's car

) any help or direction is really appreciated.
Thanks

Are you hearing the turbo spool?
With that few miles, the number of problems could be ANYTHING.
You'll have to be more specific with the noise. I'll tell you that my car made a TON of noises that were all related to heat shields and the chimney (being that I had 2 of the 6 bolts holding it together). They were all rattles though, no wooshes (except for the good kind of woosh).

Well I do have the mentioned heat shield rattles .. is there anything for that?
But on the current noise, @ part throttle it starts to build at 2K until about 3K and it sounds like no boost is being made, very sluggish.
but if I go WOT I get alittle of the noise and then it's gone, and I can hear the turbo whine, so it sounds fine.
My thought on it was if the BOV is broken as people have told me is recirculating (correct?) so you shouldn't hear it, but if it was broken some how and it did blow off to the atmosphere, would it make a whoosh noise, when trying to build boost?
my only other thought is the waste gate is gone, but it is quite loud.
and sounds more from the drivers side the passenger.

To fix the heat shield rattles, just remove the heat shields. Simple.
The BOV venting to the atmosphere is unmistakeable. You'd know, and your idle would suffer.
It's late and I'm out of ideas right now. Maybe someone else can chime in with an idea.

How is the gas mileage if you keep it mostly in the wooshing area? could be the BOV.

well the wooshing just started last night, was running in 4th @ 2500rpm, and it just started ..... so I can't comment on Mileage
but idle does get all over the place when it's warmed up and can cause it to stall as well.
What does the BOV sound like
this is a distinct whoosh up but a definate pshhhtttt when you let off, very quick like something is releasing pressure quick.

FIXED!!!!
Blow the vacuum hose between the BOV and Intake, replaced that and all is well in Turbo land again
Thx
