Colder plugs? V-Power
With my current engine mods do you guys think I should go to a colder set of plugs? Monster ported 16G set at 16 psi on a Joe-p MBC(for now, 18 psi in the future), CES 3" TBE and CES up-pipe, Saab 900 TMIC, removed snorkus and K&N panel filter.
Are your current plugs showing signs of being too hot ? (burnt electrodes, degradation of materials). If not, then why switch ?
I see most people switch to hotter or colder plugs as a kluge repair to poor running conditions in their set-ups, rather than sound choices made due to the condition of the plugs.
I'd certainly be conservative, and evaluate any change after a few 1000 miles (given that things don't take an immediate crap) by removing the plugs and seeing what you've got. With colder plugs you'll be more susceptible to fouling if something is a little off.

Since a set of plugs costs about $10 or less, it takes about 10 minutes to change (or 45 in my case, darned SC!) I would say it is worth the butt dyno test.
Really, you spend the cost of a set of plugs in an hour at a bar, or more. And you certainly aren't going to damage anything. Do it!

Well, I replaced my horribly fouled plugs (from my recent wiring ordeal) with the 6's today but ordered a set of 7's. I'm going to try the 7's sometime in the next few weeks.
When I pulled my #3 plug, back when my car wouldn't run, it was fouled REAL bad, when I just pulled them they looked to have a little high speed glazing but I figure it was probably due to all the deposits from the ordeal that caused it.

Ya, that's what I thought. I'm about 120+ chp over stock now, that's why I was thinking about going colder. What are you running in your new engine?morgie wrote:NGK recommed to go one step colder for every 70-100hp increase.
