Front CV boot ripped.

It's not so bad cause I have to replace the control arm and wheel bearing on the same corner. But how long can I drive around with an open boot+ no grease.?

I drove around for several months months (some of them winter months) with three torn front boots. I periodically just reached under there and slathered more grease into the joints. They didn't even start to click.

Wait until you hear it clunking when you're going straight. The axle is on its last leg, not too far from snapping in half. Once it gets to that point,

If you have an autozone nearby you can get a similar price but avoid shipping not only for the order, but for returning the core.
I would not bother packing extra grease in there if the rip is bad - it will only get flung out and its messy stuff. Plus you don't want it getting on your rotors. Just my 2c. If you really must live with it for more than a few months I'd get a split boot kit to keep the grease in.
However I think you are much better off just getting a new axle on that faffing around with those.

If you plan on making power you can install FWD CVs. They are nice and thick compared to the AWD CVs. I'm running 95 Legacy FWD axles now. Seach ebay, I found mine for $10 plus shipping.

Dan - Do you know if you can run the FWD axles in the rear as well?
I think I'm at the point where I'm making "holy shit" amount of power.

Hmmm... don't know. I do know that the left and right axles are different. I'm running WRX CVs in the back. I guess you can check the part numbers??

I think the PN's are different. I was hoping you'd have some insight. Or have a front and rear stock peice laying around to compare them.
I wonder if USDM STi axles would bolt up?
I should check out the Driveshaft shop, and see what they want to charge for some axles.... EEK! $1499 for 900hp axles!
Do the rear WRX ones drop right in?

The left and right axles are the same for BC/BFs. Maybe they changed that in 95, Dan? There are only two types of front axles for BC/BFs: FWD and AWD.
I doubt you can use front axles in the rear, since the hub-side joints are different on stock axles (stock front axles use undercut-free joints and stock rear axles use bell-type joints), the stock rear axles are longer than the stock fronts, and the hubs have a different spline count.

In what way were they different? Maybe one was an aftermarket axle and one was stock or something... I do know the two front axles in my car are identical, and that SOA's remanufactured front axle part number is the same.

The outboard knuckle was different. Not sure if it was just cosmetic or not, but the 95s were the same way. I don't think they are aftermarket because they are toothpicks compared to the FWD axles.
