i took my car out for a little jaunt today and got on the freeway as usual. got my front axles replaced yesterday and fellin pretty good doin about 90 when all of the sudden the entire inner wheel well on the driver side comes out with a loud shabang. scares the shit outta me. i pull over to inspect the dameage and everything is gone. the passanger one is still there although has alot of damage so i continue on my way. not going over 50 the passenger side one stays for all of 150 yards and goes under the tire. i tried to slow down but as soon as i hit the brakes it flies off with another shabang. now i have no inner wheel wells and thats fine, the ones on the 97 are gone and the ones on the civic are gone so no big deal but (and theres always a but) now whenever i turn sharp as in more than 90 degrees and sometimes at 90 degrees the tire is rubbing aganist something and i cant figure out what. i turned it to full lock and feel around the tires but find nothing. the bad thing is that it does it on both sides. and im absoutly sure that the inner wells coming off have something to do with it because when i drove the car in circles after i picked it up it wasnt doing it. ahhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggg this god dam car needs to die so i can drive my moms car or not feel bad about getting a new one.

The wheel well comes out? What?

Are you talking about the axles coming out of the hubs?

There is a piece of sheet metal that the inner wheel well cover attaches to that probably got pulled towards the tires and is rubbing. It would only happen when the wheel was turned too. It's on the far inside, towards the front, parrallel to the tire. When I removed the heat shield from the passenger side manifold I pushed this piece out of my way a little and I had an insane rubbing that was scaring the hell out of me and took me a few different times looking at it to figure it out. It's at least worth a shot.

my contention remains THIS GOD DAM CAR NEEDS TO DIE. unless i can stop the rubbing and i suddenly decide to intercool it and put on a vf39.

i must sound realy bipolar right now

You're talking about the fender liners...

Sounds like they were taken out at some point and not re-attached correctly. There's a little part on the front, that if it comes loose, will catch air coming from the front of the car. 90mph was probably fast enough to rip them out.

Just get new fender liners and make sure that they're attached correctly with good clips.

Haha, Mine are just flapping around. I don't get it though, I've done several 100mph+ pulls (shh, don't tell), and nothing has happened. I will be getting out there tomorrow with the Zip ties though to strap them bastaads down.

I've never had a problem over 130 once, 120 a few times and hours at 100+ and I don't have the front pieces that fits under the left and right front of the engine compartment.

Steve, your N/A wagon has gone faster than my turbo sedan has, lol. I just don't have the balls-o to sustain 100+ mph for any period of time. I can't afford the ticket.

I was pissed at the time and not thinking of that kind of thing. I just found out my ex had moved back and was pregnant and married. The BMW picked the wrong guy at the wrong time. I think I was kind of hoping I'd crash. I wouldn't do it again.

You're actually less likely to get a ticket over 100 than say 80-85 as they won't get you from behind and they're less likely to pursue from the side. Of course, if they do get you ...

Yep. While on the highway, I decide my speed on the size of the ticket that I can afford. Usually nothing over 15 over, give or take.

Oh, and I don't go on-boost in 5th gear. Not sure why, I just don't like to go over 1 or 2psi in 5th. I think it's because the car has so much NVH, it just groans and shit when I hit it. Even at 80mph, I'd rather downshift to pull than give it any gas in 5th.

I have lost a fender liner as well at 90 mph +. Thought I ran over a broken semi tire or something. Scared the crap out of me.
