During the shootout, my ABS light came on breifly on one of my runs.

Is this normal? Why would it come on?

It's not normal, no. The light never comes on except when it detects a malfunction.

I wish you'd said something when it happened -- we could have checked the trouble codes. Our ABS computer only stores codes until the car is turned off, so there's no way of knowing what trouble code caused the light to come on during the race.

If it happens again, read the codes... if you do a search you can find details about it, but basically you lift up a tiny flap in the carpet under the passenger seat and read the codes off a flashing LED.

Hmm, I mentioned it to Ben.

I wonder if it had something to do with getting to 90MPH in such a short time and distance.

I'll definately check the LED or whatever next time it happens.

It also could have been sun glaring on my dash, as it was unusually bright out on Saturday. I was focused more on 6500 RPM, than I was on the ABS light.

Nah, this was mid-track, probably around the middle of third? I think I noticed it when I was at about the 1/8th.

It didn't go on when I got wheelspin.

Weird.

Did you get wheelspin when running the quarter? Were they spinning off the line or after the turbo really kicked in?

Off the line. I don't remember it exactly, I think Vikash was more surprised than I was. He might actually remember it better than I do.

Although, on the way to Matt's place in the rain, I was in 2nd gear at 16psi, and I hit it. Car started to move, then as soon as I hit 3k @ WOT and 16psi, all 4 broke loose and the car started to rotate. It was super sweet, I didn't think she had it in her :)

I just remember hearing his tires chirp at the launch and being surprised. I was busy concentrating on my own launch. :)

I've only gotten my tires to chirp twice, first time was with stock rims when the timing on one of the cams was slightly retarded, the second was with the 17" prodrive rims trying out launching techniques that people suggested on clubwrx.net for wrx's. Didn't work too well, had the feeling i was doing more damage than anything. Hold at 3k rpms then floor it and kinda slip/drop the clutch. They gotta have more low end torque talking bout spinning the wheels easily stock.

The way to do it, which I have yet to master (but Matt has, and his 60' times are out-hole-shooting WRX's), is to get it to about 4k, and start slipping the clutch, when you start to move, quickly release the clutch as you feed it gas.

I wasn't giving it enough gas, but I should have. My trap speed is just as fast as my buddies 05 Legacy GT wagon and he ran a 14.5. That says a good bit about the amount of power I have and the poor launches I have :(
