My Legacy V8 got me a ticket

So I was driving 10 UNDER the speed limit and this cop pulls me over.

So he walks up to my car and say
-Do you know why I pulled you over?
-I was probably speeding...
-No, I pulled you over because your car is loud
-Umhh. okay

He looks under the car and said
-Hey, there's nothing under there, it's a straight pipe
-I know, but I do have a catalyst *That was the tree hugger in me
-It's really loud, it sounds like a V8
-But it's only a 4 cylinder
-Well, we made a special operation this summer against people with modified exaust but you, you're the first one I see that way. Normally the put some custom muffler in the back but you, it's really a straight pipe.
-yeah, I know

From there there was no point explaining to him that the turbo needed get the gases out ASAP and bla bla bla, that would not have helped my cause anyway

So he kept looking and he said, I can't let you go like that.
-Okay, so what will be the fine?
-Let me look in the computer for that

He's back 5 min. later with my 148$ fine wich is ok to me. Could have been a lot worst...

Never argue with an officer doing his job. My car is not stock, I know it, he knows it. Done deal.

I think I'm gonna get a cutout and have it dump at the side right behind the rear passenger door. Just have it welded into my test-pipe. When the popo is around, I'll just flip the switch.

"Son, what's that pipe on the side for?"

My BF is pretty loud with no cats, but it does have a nice, big Dynomax 3" straight-through muffler. It also sounds like a much larger engine.

$148 is a good way to a nice muffler :(

Yea, I've got no cats a Super-cat 3" resonator, and a Super-Cat 3" straight through muffler. It's burbly...

Burbly is about the perfect word to describe a Subaru EJ boxer when it's uncorked.

I've had my exhaust done since Saturday, and I'm supprised I havn't been pulled over yet, it's loud. Helix bellmouth DP, with a custom 3" exhaust and a magnaflow muffler. I love it :D

I got pulled over once for a loud exhaust, fortunately he forgot all about it when he found a warrant for my arrest. Ten dollars later, i was out of jail and calling for a ride back to my car. Thats funny yours is just a straight pipe. I've never seen one without some kind of tip. I dont think the cop could have really written me a ticket for it since the car is licensed in Iowa to avoid emissions tests and its legal there.

I shot a flame (or I think I shot a flame) in front of a cop, and he just was WAITING to pull me over.

I redlined 1st between some buildings and shifted at the rev limiter then came to a stop at a sign. He hauled up behind me, then stayed GLUED to my bumper. Car was like popping and backfiring because I was engine braking in 2nd at like 20mph. I was SO scared.

If I remove the cat, I think that I can throw flames when the ECU is running on the safe mode. *Running insanelly rich* But since I am a friend of the environment, I'll keep the cat

Considering Boostjunkie's cattless, 16G powered 91 tested as clean as my fully catted stock exhausted 94, I don't really think emissions is a problem. In fact, I've never heard of ANY Subaru that hasn't passed emissions (except for failing to have a cat, or having an 02 sensor CEL).

well, my car fails to have a cat and the check engine light is always on...two reasons why it wouldnt pass right there.

The old Subarus didn't like emissions tests. I, uh, know of a guy who used to pay extra to another dude who would just give him a sticker and use a clean newer car for the test print out.

I'll be going catless eventually. But i've got a wrx midpipe and STi axleback, because I like to be able to hear my music and airleaks when I'm driving

I drive my Rally car complete with sponsors names and competition numbers all over Los Angeles for work. It's got a cat and a 2.25" single box exhaust and is eerrrr very loud.
I've been followed and been side by side with the CHP and local police with no pull overs yet.
Maybe they think that the old fart in the car can't drive and has borrowed it for the day from his son??
But I do try to repect the traffic rules????

Cheers

I also used to drive my rally car (VW Golf MKII 16v) with a straight pipe.

I had all the stickers and # of the serie and drove it like this for a about a year. I noticed that I was getting WAY more attention from cops / local street ricers with the stickers. What's amazing is that my engine is stock (134hp) + the weight of the roll cage I am actually SLOWER than a stock 16v.

Well, people would rev their engine at me and waiting for me to peel off laying a patch of rubber. Well, last summer I removed all the stickers, numbers, windshield banner... The only way you can tell it's a rally car is the 5 points harness + the roll cage wich is black so it not too flashy BUT the exaust is still hyper loud

like phil said "flip a switch" if you wanna do something that......... well i think its cool then visit summit racing sometime they've got the cut-off pipes and you can go from 1db to 1,000,000db with the flip of a switch, i think i'm gonna put one on my legacy... just for kicks because the cops around here suck!
