Methusela finally kicks - almost dead alternator

Yeah, 2499xx miles and the original alternator started making a low whining noise and I could smell burning electonics while driving. Today I checked it out at work and pulled up "bad diode pattern". So I swapped in the used one I bought off Vikash ages ago. The old one will be rubuilt as soon as I can get it done. Maybe I'll even anodize it and put it's name in gold leaf under clear coat!
Probably not.
Just another advantage to machines over people - unless you're name is Lazarus, you ain't gettin' resurrected.

Hehe, I'm glad you had the foresight to pick that used one up off me way back then... (musta been more than a year ago, no?)
I heard rebuild parts cost more than whole rebuilt alternators -- where were you gonna get the rebuild kit? Or were you just gonna replace the diodes?

I don't know. I need to find out how much it will all cost either way, though I will rebuild this unit one way or another. It deserves it and I would trust it more than the crap they sell at the auto parts places (like the garbage Bosch products we get that come back for re-replacement all the time).
