Five years of immunotherapy . . .

. . . and now I'm done.
No more allergy shots for me. Just saw my allergist for my annual checkup, and he agreed that I'm doing so well that he sees no reason to continue with the treatment unless I start to show definite signs that things are bothering me again.
What this means to me:
1. No more monthly injections at $26 a visit.
2. No more annual serum replacement at over $350 a batch
3. No more having to schedule time to even deal with this crap anymore
Since I started this therapy, I've become far less affected by pollen, weeks, grass, dust, etc. My allergies to cats and dogs, however. . . seems to be a lost cause. I'm marginally better around dogs, but I still have problems with most breeds. And cats. . . don't even ask. I'm so far off the charts with cats that living with them would likely kill me after prolonged exposure.
Soo. . . I'll probably get some fish once I've got my debts paid-off and I'm in a house again.

I'm lucky as I had bad allergies as a kid, but they almost entirely went away by the time it really mattered.

When it was time to grow up and settle down... with a cat... you were ready.

I was never allergic to animals, just certain pollens that hit me bad twice a year.
The fortunate time it left was when I started hanging out with women.

I swear I'm getting allergies from living in this pollution infested hell hole they call houston.
fucking air quality is horrible, not to mention there are swamps on the east side of the city that release methane gas, that do nothing to help pollution.
I really need to get the hell out of this city....

I think growing up in Alaska has strengthen my immune system. I never had any allergy problems as a kid. I could play with almost any animal from wild to tame.
Now that I move to Cali (4 years now after growing up in AK) i find that 95% of the people I socialize with have extremly bad allergy problems. So bad it effects their everyday lifestyle from work to fun.
Also, after 4 years of living here i find myself irritated by small weather changes or long haired animals. I think this state is starting to corrupt my body.... i must excape.

Josh, I heard that Houston has surpassed Los Angeles as having the worst air quality in America.

Robert Kennedy Jr. is an environmental activist. He has a new book out that I want to buy. It's called crimes against nature and it talks about the things touched on in this thread. I saw him on cspan2 talking about the book. I know that environmental activists have been smeard by folks on the right but this guy isn't out there spiking trees or martyring himself on some pine tree. Some of the things he talks about are actually pretty startling like asthma rates among children in Upper NY state which used to be and partly still is one of the most beautiful spots in the country for lake fishing.

hahaha, x-cape! i hate it when people say it like that.. but how can you write it out!?!? Where's Laurel for this one?
EEEE-SSSSSS-CAAAPE!
that's my therapy. I too went thru the whole twice a week allergy shot dealies.. try just living with it for a while, kids.. i know i wanted to stop the shots just cause i hated my doc. the nurses were hot though..

no, but really, as soon as you stop the whole therapy thing, you'll be ok. There's so many conspiracies in the medicine fields, that its not even ridiculous anymore.. Prime Example: Flu Shot.
My mother was just trying to convince me to get one because i technically qualify for it. (there's a list somewhere??) I reminded her that i've been sick every goddamn year i get a flu shot. The past three years, since I've had control over it and refused one, I've never even gotten a sniffle.
I think i'll change my name to Art Bell.

yeah....screw flu shots.....I've never gotten one. I can look back at all the times I've been sick in the past year and relate them to times where I was under a lot of stress and not getting enough sleep. BAM....that seems to always do it for me. Mainly not enough sleep over a period of time.

You need glasses? I wear contacts myself. The dailies kick ass - no cleaning.
Steve
I know what you meant, just thought I'd make an OT-leading joke.
