Dumbasses

I must say I'm in one of my more cantankerous moods today. I blame it mostly on work. However I might be able to contribute it slightly to the fact I did get up at my alarm set time, instead of snoozing for 45 minutes like I have normally been doing lately. Damn having to pee so bad you can't sleep any more!

Anyway, that wasn't so bad. Plus I found out yesterday I did buy the extended warranty on the Ionic breeze GP I bought from sharper image a year ago, which allows me to swap it out for the newer model. So I was all pumped about that.

Then as soon as I got to work....and actually started doing work stuff, it just hits....

Whether you would like me to or not......allow me to elaborate. We'll start with the current task I have been asked to do with very little direction or support. I am supposed to fill out a requisition so we can order some pressure relief valves from this vendor. To do that, I need to have the vendor size the valve to our operating conditions. I've already done the calculations, which is another story...maybe later. We supposedly have a data sheet that we fill out to give to the vendor. Well I have two different ones. One is "partially" filled out, the other is blank. I was going to use the partially filled out one as an example, but it is for a different type of pressure relieving setup. So the parameters are different, or so I think.

At this point I call one of the engineers who used to work in my group. He said there are two different data sheets the company uses. He said he would get them down to me. I have yet to see them, or know if they are the same ones I have. I decided rather then continue to piss myself off, I'd go take an HP/PO run to the GALL with my buddy at work and swap out the Ionic breeze.

Side note: My buddy and I have made up our own daily acronyms for our mall runs.

HP: Hoochie potential aka hottie you wish was in your bed
PO: Post Office
GALL: Galleria mall.

There are one or two more, but those are the pertinent ones for this conversation.

So we go over the galleria....do our business, and head back. I was figuring there'd be something on my desk regarding a data sheet. Nope.

So I decided, I call the vendor, and ask him for their data sheet, so I know exactly what they want. I talk to the guy, gave him my email address, and he said it was off. That was probably 40 minutes ago. More then likely the dumb ass spelled my name wrong or mis-typed the email. There lies a partial root of my cantankerousness today. Out of the past 4 vendors I've contacted and asked to email me something 3 of them mispelled something in my email address. The first one mispelled my name. The second one mispelled the name of my company, and who the hell knows what the dumb ass today did.

The other part of my wonderful mood today is probably associated with the fact I'm supposed to fill something out that I have never done before, have no example of how to fill out, and get very little feedback on what needs to be on their, other then "..just fill out your operating parameters and stuff..." Mind you, not everything on the sheet needs to be filled out, and I'm not exactly sure what is pertinent to how I need the relief valves sized.

If you want me to do something, show me how to fucking do it. Even if it's only once, at least I'd have an example to reference back to if I had questions, and couldn't find some dumbass to not answer them for me.

So maybe, just possibly I might actually get the data sheet filled out today. I will probably feud over it for a little bit more I think. There may also be another HP run...we'll see.

I blame the idiots at my company. What could have been done in an hour tops had they given me the proper instructions/procedure will/has taken half a day or more.....

The only reason we have the acronyms is to keep the mall runs on the DL

I found a cheaper alternative to the Ionic Breeze, and it's only $79, it's not whisper quiet, only makes a slight hissing sound. It has cut down on the ammount of dust and junk in my bedroom.

Since we're on the subject of idiots at jobs, I'll tell a little story:

I used to head the parts order that came in at my Toyota dealership every weeknight. This meant:

- Making sure all the packages came off the truck
- Scanning every last item that arrived, from an engine block to a screw
- Stickering all the special-order parts so that we know which department they're assigned to
- Putting all the parts away

It can be a bit bewildering the first couple nights, but once you learn the part-number sequence and learn what each location a part is supposed to be in, it's cake. A goddamn chimpanzee could do it, because it's the same thing every single night, so unbelievably boring.

I used to get my fair-share of ass-chapping, because I would miscount the boxes that came off the truck occasionally, and if a box is not there when I signed for it, the company eats it. I also wasn't the best at scanning all the parts. Some people I trained on that ended up getting better than me

But nonetheless, I did that for 2 years. 5 days a week, doing the stock order, Saturday, driving the employee shuttle van. I was content with it, because I always seem to be able to deal with things that are unacceptable to other people as long as I see benefit to it (paychecks).

Well, the nighttime shuttle driver got fired in an incident in which company gas ended up in an employee's personal car (brilliant!!), and they offered me the nighttime shuttle driver spot. Basically, what this meant was, I would get more hours, to do a lot less work, and weekends off. How could I say no?

That was, oh I'd say 4 months ago. Since then, they have hired 3 new people for the stock order shift, on top of the 3 people they already had doing it. This is a 2-person job, in fact, I did the whole thing myself on more than one occasion. So they have 6 people doing the stock order right now, and they're still screwing up the work they manage to finish.

I heard from one of the guys at the counter that my boss said everything went down the toilet the night I left and that I was the best stock person he ever had.

I do wonder sometimes if they will ever ask me to return to stock, but I'm not worried about it, coz if they do, I'll tell them to go screw themselves. :D

Let's see 6 times your wages vs. 2 times (you and another guy) if they want you back? I'd say at least ask for more money and present an intelligent (informal) business case as to why you deserve it and how it saves them money and maybe helps customer service as the customer gets the part they ordered when they ordered it. This is a less tangible, but perhaps more important savings.

That's a valid argument, and my manager does have a degree in business hung right there on his wall, so such a proposal should make sense to him.

To be honest, I think the best thing for them to do would be to put me back there, fire everyone else, and cut the orders in half. That way, I could do everything the right way and not kill myself doing a super-sized order every night. We order too much as it is.

I did the order by myself 3 times, and it was murder. But to be honest, I enjoyed being able to do everything my way without a bunch of clowns screwing everything up. In almost any case, when there's work to be done, I prefer doing it alone.

I know that feeling. Except when I'm doing heavy-duty or duellie truck tires.
