1. How hard is the fuel pump to change out?
2. Is the Walpro a direct fit (no modification needed) replacement?

yes, and yes.
wait, i mean, no and yes. the fuel pump is right underneath the trunk mat, near the foam of the back seat. just unscrew the covers for it (you'll see 'em, right side(?)) and pull it out.
someone correct me if i'm wrong on this.. but i'd like to think i'm right

My fuel pump clicks when the key is on 'acc' mode.. does that mean it's bad/going bad?

The fuel pump isn't that difficult to switch out although it does require some time if your not used to it.
The walbro fuel pump is a direct fit, at least if you get the right model. You may have to shorten the piece of hose that came with the new fuel pump but that would be about as hard as it gets.

IF you get the wrong version, you can still make it work. I had to make new electrical ends to match up to the walbro AND zip tie it to the metal bracket. I didnt have time to return it and get the correct model. No problems though in having it work for me.

Doug, I don't know what pump you got, but the 342 is a DIRECT fit for the Turbo Legacy.
Once I got the old pump out of the car, it took about 10 minutes to get it back in the car and the car back together.
Tristian - No, the ticking in ACC is normal.

Well, for one, I got the NA so there might be one difference. Two, the guys who sold me the pump didnt know squat except it was for the WRX and I didnt have time to pull, verify, and replace! I just wanted to pull, install and race!
Doesnt matter in the end. It works! I forgot to check the model number on the actual pump and the reciept only says "Walbro Fuel Pump".
Of course now I am lucky to get 20 mpg, even if I NEVER hit boost.

I got 17.5MPG on the last tank of mixed driving. That's about regular for me.
My record is about 9.5mpg in my 95 Legacy FWD. Driving back from South Carolina in a blizzard with 100lbs of Mountain bikes on the roof, 2 people in the car, and 10 days worth of gear in the back.

How much do you pay for gas? 92 octane goes for over $2/gallon here. $5 would get me 2 1/2 gallons, so 30 miles........ wait......math?......me?......

Anywhere from $1.95 to $2.33 for 93 here.

$2.20 average for 92 octane, through in a gallon of Tolulen at $5 per gallon per 10 and it bumps up to about $2.45 per gallon. Exspensive but cheaper than a rebuild!
