So I was the victim of a hit and run last night. A stupid deer ran out and hit the side of my car while I was driving home from dinner. It bounced off the front quarter panel, hit the front passenger door, hit the rear passenger door, then finally decided to leave my car alone.

I'm gonna work on getting some pics, and I haven't had the stomach to look at in the sunlight yet, but from what I could tell, its going to be a bunch of work to get the shape right. So I was thinking, would I be able to take the doors off my wrecked 91 wagon, get them painted, then stick them on my 92? The quarter panel will need a body shop, as I don't know of any wrecked 92s up here, but the doors might be cheaper to just get painted. The front one is rusting out underneath anyways, so I figure why not?

ARGH!!!! I haven't even had a chance to change the oil on her yet!

I don't see what the problem would be. AFAIK only the front quarter panels and the hood differed between the '91s and the '92s. Someone else will surely have a better idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I think the rear glass is different.

Are the skins easily removed? I know many body shops now do not replace doors, they just apply new skin.

I was going to handle the door installation myself. My old car's sitting at a dealership that can paint the doors, so I was gonna just do it out back or in my driveway.

Thankfully none of the glass got broken.

i know for a fact the 90-91 doors fit on the 92-94 because my ex girl smacked my car up and my beater was a 90 legacy and i took the doors off there for my 93 car. i just got my car back today i will be postings pics very soon. looks sweeeeet too

Yup they will fit, I have 93 front doors on my 91 turbo. You'd be better off getting whole doors. removing the skins is ALOT!! of work which will require drilling out the spot welds and welding on the new skins etc ect..
Getting whole new doors is cheaper in the long run (much less labour), and you can do it yourself.

What's the condition of the driver's side door? Someone's already taking the one off my wrecked car, but it was dented pretty good by the previous owner. I'd be interested in paying you for it if there's not a lot of rust and its dent free. The passenger side stuff I'm going to take from my donor car.

What year is it? If its a 92-94, I'll take the passenger side quarter panel too, so that I don't have to pay a body shop to pound mine back into shape. (Unless there was another body shape change I'm forgetting)

I'd look for an example with no rust and maybe a minor parking lot dent or two. The dents are alot easier to fix then rusted doors. Even with little rust once it starts it just keeps growing.

Good point Mark. Okay then... is the driver's door rust free, with very little dents? Actually, I'm gonna go out this week (hopefully), and take a look at the passenger side doors. I may be interested in more than just the driver's door.

Wow.... I really need to find work in a hurry. I wasn't planning on doing any body work on this thing until next year. But I can't stand to look at it the way it is right now.

the drivers door does have slight rust on the lower edge and some under the drivers mirror.not totally bad because they are not really noticable once painted.

Err... so apparently I've been referring to the wrong piece of the body this whole time... Its amazing what you can learn just after midnight!

But yeah, all the same questions apply. I think I'm gonna wait until spring comes tho, so that any fun I have this winter can be repaired at the same time.

I got the windows down

And found rust on the front door

But much better than mine.

I just shoved mine into our shed until I get around to thinking about it more (and have money to get them painted).

How much rust is there?
