This is makin me feel pretty stupid. I can't seem to figure out how to take off the plastic cover on the steering wheel. You know, the one with the subaru logo inlaid on it. I have no airbag, and have taken off every screw i can find. Any ideas?

Pull hard. Seriously. IIRC, it just snaps in there. I recall only taking mine off once to see what the inside looked like, then i put it back on. I thought you meant take off wheel, like Take-off, from a wrx or something..
good luck!

There should be two screws or torx bits on each side of the steering wheel horn button. After you take those two out, or rather loosen them, you should be able to pop off the horn button. If the horn button is hard to take off, then just keep jiggling around the screws/bits with a screwdriver until the cover comes off.
After that, you take off that big nut and pull like you wouldn't believe. BUT MAKE SURE YOU PUT A PILLOW OR SOMETHING THE WILL CUSHION THE IMPACT BECAUSE SOMETIMES THE WHEEL FLIES OFF THE MOUNT!!!!
Or you could just use a steering wheel puller:)

Instead of a pillow you could also just leave the nut on a little so the wheel can't fly off. Mine was on t here pretty damn well so I got a $10 puller.

there should be screws under the steering wheel to get that cover off.
I tried with a puller to get the wheel off and it wasn't moving.....it was actually tweaking the puller.

Does anyone know how this process differs on an airbag-equipped car?

yeah if you dont have an airbag its 3 screws. 2 on each side and one on the bottom. when thoes are out just pull the bottom towards you and left up.

I just did this the other week. There are two pop covers on the sides you take off. Then there are 4 safety torx screws, the size is T30... so you should be able to pick them up at Sears or any place that has safety torx. And oh yeah, the battery needs to have been disconnected for at least an hour. The bag will slide out and then you have to disconnect a couple of connectors before it will come all the way out. Pretty easy.
And any real man worth half his salt will be able to get that wheel off with his bare hands, no pillows needed
