is the new forester XT the only source for a full 4.44 driveline?
i think there is a suretrac LSD 4.44 front diff.
where else could one get such a low gearset? that would be, IMHO, the single best upgrade for a SS or any other leg for that matter.

Out of curiousity, do you know approx. how much a full 4.44 driveline would cost?

I'm running 4.44 in a legacy. RPMs are not too bad. It spins around 3K in 4th going 60MPH. Pulls like a mother in the 3K range. I drive 40+ miles a day, the legacy has a small tank so I fill up once a week.
I have an extra front 4.44 ring a pinion out of a 4EAT FS.

I started to look for a vacuume switch to make a home made smallcar setup. That sounds like the best way to do it. I'm not in a hurry to do this because the weather is going to get bad soon. Snow/ice plus hard shifting could get hairy.

all rs's (98-05) come with 4.444 in 4eat form, same with all foresters
Also the new turbos: baja, forester, legacy, outback. All have 4.444 in 5mt form.

is there a way to get that gearing without a whole new drivetrain. like new front center and rear diffs
