ok my car is getting like 15mpg highway and city, no matter how i drive i get like 15 to 17mpg, now we used a o-scope at my school and checked out the O2, and it seemed to be not working as it should, so i went and got a bosch O2 for $50 with student discount.

should this bump me back up to where it should be, or is there a few other things i should check out??

replacing the 02 from what i understand seems to be a pretty good thing.. it does get you some more power, as the ECU can get a proper reading from it, hence, making the right data-choices for your car.. you will notice a difference. I'm not sure whether or not you'll see it in MPG, but.. there will be gains.

ya i know that it will help with performance since when it goes bad the ECM changes to a closed loop and does not take readings from the o2, there forse setting the ECM into safe mode, anyways ya i just went through this this last 3 weeks in college.

i just wasnt sure about these engines if it would help with the MPG.

let me know how it goes after the o2 sensor change..im getting similar mileage on an n/a and i know it should be higher, and i just replaced plugs and wires along with *sigh* a crankshaft machine and pulley reweld and new timing belt..oil pump..valve cover seals and cam seals..but so far i dont think my mileage has gotten much better, but theres more power, so i ws thinking of the o2 sensor..mechanic said it was fine but maybe not.

My car is currently getting 13.3MPG. This sucks my nut sack to no end. Damn subarus.

Heh, I noticed that my economy was down a few MPG at my last fillup, but then realized that with my new larger diameter wrx tires I recorded less distance than I actually traveled.

with higher rolling resistance WRX tires you probably lost a couple MPG for real.

I haven't measured my MPG scientifically yet, but I think it is worse than my BMW which gets about 21-22 with my mix of driving. And the car really runs perfectly even at idle.

What I can't understand is how directly comparable this car is to my previous Honda 2.2 liter EX wagon, similar engine size and power, weight almost idetical. The Honda would routinely return 26-27 MPG mixed driving. Maybe I underestimate the drag of the 4WD system.

Replace the PCV valve. General tune up stuff helps, too: Plugs, wires, oil change. Sea Foam the top end or just go out and do an Italian tune up and just flog the mess out of the car. High speed, high rpm with lots of load to try and clean out the carbon.

Replacing all the wheel bearings and axles would help, too. But that is quite an expensive proposition. Also, get extra weight out of your car. I think every 100lbs can knock over 1mpg off most cars.

But thats what I get when i Starsky-&-Hutch-it around the corners in bellingham. The killer drive to mt. baker certainly doesn't help much either.

ya man i was just thinking... i just dropped off my girlfriend and im soo tired of driving a manual car, i like to sit back and relax and not have to worry about shifting gears, killing the clutch, etc.

also i need something with ether more power or that gets better gas milage, because my old camaro with the 305 carb got 25mpg in the city and 28 highway, and it would smoke this wagon. plus parts are cheaper for domestic cars.

Wow, those are some numbers (mpg) to be unhappy about. I'm getting 25 around town and 35 on the highway. I haven't done anything to the engine since I got the car in March except change the plugs and wires. One more thing, there's a Thule bike rack on the roof without an air dam on the front. (If anybody has one cheap, let me know. The vibrating rack is annoying on the highway.) So why the difference in mileage? Whatever you guys are doing to get those numbers, I don't want to. I'll stick with the car the way it is and ride the motorbike when I want some quick acceleration.

Do you have a turbo? That's decent sity N/A mileage, but amazing highway. Do you have a lot of speed traps there?

no turbo. seemingly no power. But I'm not complaining while it's still cheap to get around. I think the big difference between city and highway is from how I drive around town, and the fact that I live between the university, high school, downtown, and the popular hang out night life section. So, there's always traffic and sitting a lot. It's also only Front Wheel drive.

any luck with the new o2 sensor? my replaced plugs and wires had no effect, and i know i a 2.2 liter na should be getting more than 16, no question about it...please anyone have any solutions, just like to be sure the o2 will help because i dont have a lot of money, crap gas mileage isnt helping...

I just did my first mileage check since getting the car, 2.2NA wagon, WRX wheels and tires. I drove over 1000 miles around Thanksgiving weekend, just about 100% highway miles, some of it hilly.

I recorded 28.0 mpg for the trip

The car runs perfectly and every maintenance part is fresh. I feel that mileage is just about right for an AWD car of its weight and power. I haven't done strict city MPG numbers but my normal mix seems to get me about 22 every day.

I just got back from a trip from CO to NM and was finally able to get some Hwy mpg... on the way down (more hills) running 78-83mph or so I saw 23.5mpg. But on the way home - in the middle of NM, on fairly flat roads, running 70-75 or (with a nice sprint to 110 ) I received an awesome 27mpg!!

Normally I get 20-21mpg comuting (back roads, stop signs, etc) and that is romping on it off and on everyday.

'93 Legacy SS 5spd, A/W intercooler, CES TBE, UD Pulley, MBC set to 12.5psi.

That ain't too shabby at all. It also makes me wonder about me AFR...

For me it depends on how lead my foot is. I have seen from 22 to 28 on my SS.

IF I drive fast n stoopid like usual, I keep it around 23 mpg. If I drive slow and safe, I get 28.

This is mixed City/hwy.

That is the thing about turbo cars, the MPG changes ALOT depending on turbo useage. The NA cars should be consistant.

I've been getting 14.5 to 15.7 or thereabouts, depending on how much I am on boost or what not. I get shit for gas mileage, but it's worth it

damn, i was on the gas all the time this last tank of gas, at the halfway mark i had 100 miles and i still got 230 miles for the tank, but it looked kinda empty so i figured i better stop.
