Duty Solenoid A

What exactly does this thing do? I've been having tranny problems recently, here:

And today, after adding fluid, replacing back to the other alternator I had laying around, I finally got it to give me the 16 power blinks. So, pulling the codes, I come up with Code 11. (One long, One short, then stop) This is the only code, from what I can see. So, in the table of codes, this corresponds to Code 11, which is the Duty Solenoid A.
Any ideas? Where should I start? What does this do? I'd like to get some idea here, so that I can be back on the road again![/b]

Okay.. No response. :(
Allow me to modify my inquiry, then..

Where might the Duty Solenoids be located and how hard would it be to replace them?
Are they all grouped together ala-ABS-Solenoid style?
Please, 4EAT folks, get in here!

*sigh*.. makes me wish Cipher were still here..

Duty solenoid A controls line pressure. The solenoid is located in the valve body. If you remove the tranny pan you'll see the solenoids. The duty a solenoid sits by itself. solenoids 1, 2, & 3 are in the same bracket piece.

well, now for an inspection, then.. too bad it's like 2AM here.. I'll have to look tomorrow, then.

If that solenoid controls line pressure, then perhaps that's what caused the powersteering to rob the tranny power.. hmm.. ideas are flowing!

4EATs are not my forte, but I'm pretty sure the power steering system is completely independent of the transmission... You may have felt that the power steering was robbing power from the tranny but I don't think it was actually happening/

Vikash is correct.....they're not connected in any way.....I think it's in your head.

Then why do the pump and tranny share the fluid?
I was on the understanding that with 4EATs, the fluid IS the power, so whereever its at, there's the response.
hm.. okay, so around tight corners should the tranny be slipping, so to speak?
Now this gets interesting...

They don't share fluid. They just both happen to use the same type of fluid.

wow.. you learn something everyday.
I just thought that since the lines from the pump disappear down toward the tranny, that they were connected somehow.. well, okay then.

I think if you traced them you'd just see them disappear into the crossmember where the steering rack is.

Per my first post in this topic/thread..

Could my lack of reverse drive be due to that reverse inhibitor switch deal? I'm in R, and have only ONE backup light, whereas I used to have two. I know the light works, so if they're both not lit, or lit properly, could that cause the safety deal to step in, preventing reverse engagement? What's the procedure to check this? Do our transmissions even have this feature?

I only have slight forward drive now; but I have to rev it pretty high, and even then, only in D.

I've gotta find time to get this thing's fluid changed, and actually get to working on it; I'm tired of begging for rides, haha.

Any ideas on the reverse inhibitor switch thought?

back up lights are tied together and one wouldn't light if you had it "slightly" in gear.

You sure the bulb is working and that power is going to the wiring?

You can adjust/test the lever by using the following procedure.

As much as I don't want to admit it, you're probably right. My string of bad luck has no end, and this is just a small price in its path, I feel. At least I didn't wreck the whole car!

I'm tryna source another tranny right now.. Maybe find a rebuild kit, I dunno..
