97 Legacy2.5 GX Sedan "Red"Fluid Leakage Problem (

Hello everyone,
I have a '97 2.5 GX Sedan Legacy on 142.000 KM. with an automatic transmisson on it. I have bought the car a few days ago. But today I realized that there are some "red" oil drops on the oil pan (which is mounted under the gearbox). I have checked the levels of the transmission fluid and the power steering fluid, all of them are ok. What might be the problem? Is the leakage from the gearbox or from the power steering system? Is ıt a serious problem? And if anyone has the user's manual, I would be very happy... Please help me, in my country nobody can help me about that car! Thanks in advance...

Just sounds like a slow automatic transmisson fluid leak. I think power steering fluid is amber colored, atleast when its fresh. If it was a power steering leak then it prob. would not drip from under the transmission and it would not be a red fluid. My best advice is to constantly check your ATF levels and monitor the leak and assess the severity of it. Lets hope its not a huge problem. I'm sure there are a few 4EAT experts on here though
PS-Where are you from?

Power steering fluid is ATF, so it's also red. So this could in principle be either.
You might be able to locate the leak by cleaning up all the ATF on the bottom and then running the engine and looking for the source.

if anyone needs manuals - i have a "collection" of them on one CD; ISO could be available on edk2 network (emule)... the collection was made from links found on forums (including this one)
(i'm not shure about policy of this forum (legal/warez stuff) - delete my post if it's necessary. )
index of CD:

Hi, I am from Turkey, Istanbul. Thanks for your help. At the moment there is not much to do except checking constantly the oil levels... Today I realized another interesting thing: While driving with 80-90 km/h (3rd gear) , there is a strange noise in the rear diff. It stops ıf you speed up to 100km/h or more, or it stops if you slow down to a speed less than 80 km/h. The sound is like that: uuuuuuuuuu! I checked, there is no oil leakage from the rear diff. Any comments/recommendations?
By the way, I could not exactly unterstand how I can get the user's manuals? E-mule doesn't fonction in my computer...

This is about as close as I got to your model year for factory manuals. It's not complete, but has most of the stuff there.

Thanks everyone. I realised that the leakage is from the power steering system, because when I checked the pump oil level, it was nearly "0" ! I added some fluid, but I don't know what to do...

If leakage is not terrible - leave it and add some fluid from time to time; if not - change pipe (new set is pretty expensive - about 210 EUR; i got used one for Legacy1 - for a price of two beers

)
