New Plan

If the touring wagon gets totalled, I'm thinking I'll just do an everything swap over to an LSi wagon. This will not only save me on insurance(god knows mine's going to increase after this) but will be sneaky. That way, all i'd need is an LSi wagon with a great body. Doesnt have to run, doesnt have to have a nice interior, nothing. Spend a couple weeks turning the LSi into a sleepier turbo wagon...
whaddaya think?
I'm kinda hoping they total it now

I think its a great idea. Sleepers are the best. Just don't crash on purpose.

That is an awesome idea Laurel. I know of someone that's just purchased a '93 Impreza L with a full WRX conversion... As far as insurance is going to be concerned, they're insuring a 1.8L car

Yeah, that'd be nice. Then you'll go AWIC eventually, keeping the non-turbo hood. Nice.
Have you checked first to make sure there isn't any likely crank bearing damage? Art said the collision did cause the radiator to push on the crank pulley, and I'm told that often chews up crankshaft bearings.

Finding an LSi will be hard, then finding one with a good body in the PNW will be hard aswell. What happened to the white touring wagon? The only real difference between the LS and LSi are the seats (which you're planning on replacing), and the color of the stock window tint (which you're planning on tinting over). How much more was your insurance when you switched from the L to the LE? I can't see it being that much more, if at all. Not enough to warrant the time if ya ask me. If you want the sleeper deal, you could always just get an NA hood and slap it on a touring wagon.

my insurance increased $50 a month
the white one's sold.
I just want to make sure I have a sunroof, that's my main concern

You can put sunroofs on a car that didn't come with one. Steve (evolutionmovement) has one.

I doubt there's any engine damage, I got a look at it with a clearer head yesterday, and stuff's not pushed back very far if at all

Excellent.
Don't most OEM Legacy sunroofs leak too?

i dunno. Mine doesnt.
and I have cool stock switches that allow you to nearly remove your fingers if you're not paying attention and trying to close the sunroof

Exactly. The first time I looked at it (10 minutes after the accident) I noticed that the TOP portion of the radiator and support were pushed-in. Since our engines sit nice and low, and pretty far back in the engine bay, I was 99% sure Laurel's engine would be just fine. I didn't want to swear by it as we couldn't see under the hood, but the damage seemed to look worse than it actually is.

I once had a '91 Turbo, that OEM sunroof leaked so bad it required a large towel in my lap; that would need to be folded around occasionally. I never had passengers in the rain, they wouldn't appreciate having to use towels.
Yeah...I got rid of that car quick.

It went up 50 bucks a month going from L to LE or it went up 50 bucks a month after the accident?
The only trims that didnt get a sunroof were the L and STD
and yes a lot of oem sunroofs leak. Personally though an oem sunroof just looks so much better.

$50/month from L to LE
And yes, aftermarket sunroofs often look pretty ghetto too

If you install a sunroof correctly, it won't leak. Most places, however, do not do what I would call a "correct" installation (it’s a lot of work).

The only time my sunroof's leaked in 6 years is when I left it open. Even pressure-washes don't get in. Not the most beautiful, but for $50 (the glass place tacked $100 of it onto the price of the windshield I had insurance cover) I couldn't go wrong. The other thing is that it's lighter, less worry than the power roof, and I sized it so that it wouldn't cut through the lateral roof support between the B-pillars. I just wish the nice looking ones that don't have the little buttons coming through the glass where the rear latch is were cheaper as I would've gotten that. The OEM ones do look better.

That's a sad tale because my 91's roof leaks and I'm thinking it can't possibly be all that hard to fix. Maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't some new seals fix it???

I don't remember what the estimate to fix it was, but it was a lot. New seals, also trying to clean all the needles/whatever from the drainage channels that are inside(?) the roof somewhere. I was led to believe that cleaning those out would be very difficult and time consuming.
It wasn't the only reason I got rid of it, so all hope is not lost for you.

you guys need to do some searching in regards to cleaning out sunroofs. The seals are meant to leak; the drain hoses are what keeps water from landing in your lap.

Well, that's good to know. I had no clue.

It's not just the hoses unfortunately. The OEM sealant dries up and iti allows water to seep into the cabin. I've attempted to replace the sealant as much as I could without removing the headliner to no avail . It's now time to remove the whole headliner before the rain gets too heavy. Wanna give me a hand Scott?
