Pedestrian-Driver eye contact

Has anyone ever notice that if you drive by someone walking on the sidewalk the opposite direction of you, and your eyes meet, it's very hard to break eye contact?

It happens to me almost everyday, and I'm usually the one to break eye contact because it's uncomfortable. But at the same time, I wanna keep looking because I wanna see what the other person does...

Don't you have to break eye contact in order to keep driving safely?

Vikash, the time amounts to about 3 seconds, and I always know what's ahead of me anyway, so I'm not endangering anybody...

It's not because I'm driving fast or any other reason... I think it's because the two people make eye contact, and both people kinda wonder who's gonna break it first, so they both keep looking...

Oh. I didn't know how long a time period you were talking about.

Yeah, I know the phenomenon you're talking about. Usually I end up having to break eye contact after a second or two too, since I need my eyes elsewhere.

I think sometimes the pedestrian thinks they might recognize the driver, so they're trying to look through the windshield. I know as a pedestrian I do that a lot. It's a lot easier to see out the windshield than into it.

Easy solution: Maintain eye contact, extend middle finger.

...Although then you have all the more reason to see what they do...
