Bummer of a gas leak

Well, to start things off, I'm not a very happy camper right now...

About a month ago I began to notice a faint gas smell in and around my car, most noticable after parking, going in a store for around 10 minutes, then coming back to my car. It was pretty faint though so I didn't think much of it.
WELL, after about 2 weeks of that, the smell got REALLY bad, to the point where if I stopped at a red light, I almost passed out from the gas fumes. Obviously I had a leak somewhere, so I sidelined the car and had it towed to my mechanic. Well, he checked it out, and turns out I need a new gas tank :(. He's working on getting me one from one of his suby's which'll cost me $400, and if that doesn't work I'm looking at $800 for a new one (both prices w/ installation and all that).
What's crazy though is that this leak was directly over my exhaust pipe  . My car was a rolling bomb for a while there, so I'm quite glad I'm getting it fixed.

But anywho, I haven't had my car for about a week now, and it's driving me crazy!! I miss my baby :( .

Alright, just thought I'd throw that out there

Cheers, -James

400$ could get you a parts car full of other things besides a gas tank.

Puncture or rust? That's an unusual one. What about a JY? Are you AWD? That makes it harder.

Junkyards wont sell you a gas tank. Almost any junkyard you goto you'll notice their gas tanks have huge punctures in them. Recyclers might however.

Are legacy turbo's specific when it comes to their tanks? Scott is right, $400 will get you a good parts car, or just search the web for people parting out their cars. I can guaranty shipping on a gas tank wont cost $400, and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to install one.

On the other hand, your right. You are lucky your car didnt explode. Its good that its getting fixed.
