Well, the other day I blew my oil return line. Split it.

I dumped 4 quarts of Castrol GTX all over the ground in front of my friends office. I took his 05 Legacy GT wagon home to get more oil and limp it home.

It leaked about 3 quarts onto my garage floor.

Today, I am replacing the line with a Stainless Steel braided line, and I noticed something concerning enough to post about.

There was some white froth in my PCV lines. It was like a gunk build up.

Smelt and felt like oil.

Could this just be foaming caused by shitty oil and low oil level?

Should I be concerned about it?

I thought it was coolant, at first, but dismissed that based on smell and feel. There's really not much oil left for me to check the color and texture of the engine oil.

What do you guys think? I seriously doubt that it's coolant, but I'd like a little bit of conformation.

I drove it straight from his office into my garage where it has sat for the past 2 days.

I used some crap 99 cent 10w30 to limp it home. I normally use 10w30 Castrol GTX.

Think it'll all be OK?

I am pretty sure now it's a false alarm.

There was a good bit of oil left in the car, probably about a quart and a half, maybe 2 max (as my 6 quart oil pan was full of one engines worth of oil, and it didn't over-flow)

The oil came out, I drained some of it into a cup to analyize it.

There were a LOT of air bubbles in it, but no signs of coolant, and the magnetic plug had no signs of metal on it either.

It came out black as coffee (shitty oil), but that was about it.

Shortest oil change EVER! 6 miles on that oil, and it looks worse than 3000 miles on Castrol, hmmm....

I'm not going to change the filter then, lol. I'm pretty good at pulling apart the car now though. The turbo is already out of the car since my last post, and I took a short 5 minute break to say goodbye to my grandma. I could do this with my eyes closed!

I remember some gunk when I had my car apart. Seems pretty normal to me.

Yea, I really just think it was a mix of low-oil level and shitty oil.

Car is fixed, on the road, and not leaking a drop of fluid OR exhaust :).

yeah I'm fine just a bit depressed. I'll give you the full details in the near future pending the outcome of many potential scenarios, i.e. insurance, payout, claims, etc. Lets just say it's a bizzare situation.

It happened at 6th & alder in T-town
