CV Interchangibility

A while ago - to stop the clunking noise in a CV, i grabbed the halfshafts off a GT wagon that had been lying round, and slapped one on. (Kept orig boots)

I just had to do both inner boots - and realised that i've picked up an auto halfshafts!
(Details of the two types)

What differences in operation are there? Why are the two different for manual/auto?

FYI - The both fit and the car drives ok on both - didnt notice any diff until i went to repack joints :S

I think they're just different joints. I don't think there's any reason why you can't swap cv's between cars, or at least I don't see any reason why you can't.

The manuals are easier to totally dismatle etc.

Would the manuals be more suited for the shock of someone dropping the clutch or what? Coz y have the two sorts?
(Auto's feel more flexible - but thats just me)

I prob should put both sides the same :S At the moment - LHS has Auto, right side has the manual
