I think I've got a job at Langely in VA. Langely the AFB not the FBI. I think the base is by VA beach and Hampton, but I'm not sure. My job will have me working two days straight and then I get three off. So I'm interested in the area, what's up down there. I assume plenty of historical stuff. But what about mountain biking/hiking trails, good drives, skiing/snowboarding.

Shit, the HR crew is a bunch of awesome people.

I live north of the area, in MD, and there's some good mountain biking around here. Drives, there are always NASIOC Mid-A drives.

Traffic in NOVA sucks though, REAL bad. Probably in the top 10 for the wosrt traffic area in the country.

...what about I-405? and L.A.? You know what sucks more than all that traffic? All the ghetto birds, and surveillance. Yeah, who mentioned that? (looks around, paranoid) ..uhh.. not me!

Nothing for skiiing around Hampton. Not sure about bike trails either, but the place is pretty flat. Mostly military personnel. My ex lived there for a short bit while we were breaking up so I know the area a little.

There's a few areas here for skiing, but none directly in the HR area.

Whitetail, Round Top, Liberty, SnowShoe, 7-Springs, all within a few hours of the area. SnowShoe and 7-springs are great places to ski. And you can downhill at SnowShoe in the summer.

There's also Platekill in NY, that's not TO far away for downhilling.

I'll be one of those military people, the ND Air National Guard has an alert facility there. We fly scheduled patrols over the capital and have some jets on alert. I was at Seven Springs this past October for Collegiate MTB Nationals, seamed like a nice place. But most things like that are a few hrs. drive? What is weather like down there?

Shitty sometimes.

It's been 55 ish lately, which really sucks. I need it to snow ASAP.

I can't believe I haven't already asked this: Is Speedvision on basic cable there....that could be a deal breaker :D

Nope. In fact, we don't get Speedvision at all that I have seen :(

You could always get sattelite though...

They have Speedvision on digital cable. They also have video on demand so if you miss your favorite show you can watch it whenever you like.

That'll be cool if you come out. We'll have to have a meet. How long would you be out here? F&S-II will be in early June most likely. :)

I’ve got another interview later this month and if I get the position I’ll be out there at least until September, most likely longer. While waiting for the word on that job I got one in ND laying fiberglass/carbon for Cirrus, a small aircraft company. So I’ll let them train me how to work glass, and then I’ll quit…..projector headlights anyone?

It's not a permanant job???

Well the position is funded through Sept, when the unit’s fiscal year ends. I am almost guaranteed to keep the job longer than that, but I will have the choice. And at that time my enlistment will be fulfilled so I have an out if they don’t want to let me go. I’ll using this time to find a real job and apply for Air Force pilot slots. So I’ll have a full time job with benefits, that pays more than an entry level job I could get with my degree, while looking for a real job.

Bumpy bumpy, Look out here I come. I got the job and should be down there by March. Now to get my crap in a pile and figure out how to get all my stuff down there and where I'm going to put it once I get there. Looking at apartments and condos on the web it looks like cost of living, at least housing, isn't too bad there.

Satellite > cable.

Hands down.

It's more economical and the picture quality is so much better. Everytime I watch regular cable at someone's house, I try to refrain from commenting about how horrible the picture quality is.

Oh man, I just noticed this post! Sorry Phil. I'm not sure what channel it was on but my buddy Ira definitely has it on his cable in Silver Springs. I think he has Comcast. It may only be part of the digital package too. Do you have VOC? If I can remember I'll ask him what channel it is next time I talk to him.

Satelitte is great because it's 100% digital but it can suck hard in the rain and snow. Plus when you have cable you are supporting your local econemy a lot more then when you're on satelitte. ;)
