Are your Turbo 5MT's notchy?

Do you any of you with Legacy Turbo 5 speeds also have notchy feeling transmissions? Especially right when it goes into gear when you shift? Is this normal? and if it isnt is there any way to make it go away? different transmission oil?

Not exactly sure what you mean by notchy. But have you done the STi tranny mount? If not, start pricing them out now to get one on as soon as possible. Makes a world of difference with the tranny. Some of my synchro issues even went away after I got the mount.

Its hard to describe. The shifter kinda clicks into spot when it goes into gear.

Mine does that. I figured it was the car, but if the tranny mounts help that go away and make it a little smoother I'd go for that.

Mine has zero notchiness in all gears. Downshifting to first can be a little effort though. One other thing to note I noticed is 3rd is not directly up from neutral but I also did an auto->manual tranny swap so i've always attributed it to that.
...I'm kind of surprised that tranny mounts would solve that type of problem. i've attributed notchiness to synchro gears.

You used a Legacy Turbo transmission in your swap, though, right?
I've noticed the same thing (with 3rd gear not being directly up from the center) on my 5-speed Legacy Turbo. It was weird at first because I had been accustomed to doing the 2-3 shift a certain way on my 97 Impreza L and it wasn't possible on my Legacy.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing...but I think notchiness to some extent might be a desired characteristic of subaru trannies/shift linkages. My understanding is that generally rally (hehe) cars kinda want notchy linkages, so when you are flying around rough surfaces, running through the gears, you can feel what gear you are going into over all the vibration and such...
I've been told that the STI short shift kit imparts a particularly notchy feel,
while the syms short shift kits (which are used on JTCC cars) have a even shorter, harder shift, but its much smoother, not notchy...
Just some thoughts

Mine's pretty notchy too, especially going into 4th from 3rd, but I put that down to the huge mileage.
It's still not as notchy as my wife's Fiat though

yeah the tranny came from a 1992 legacy turbo sedan. It took me a while to get used to be a little bit off to the right and up for 3rd. Bouncing between my mr2, justy and the legacy they all have their uniqueness.
I drove Dave's swap legacy as well. From what I remember he had the short shifter kit and his tranny was massively notchy. His seemed quite a bit effort to get it to go into gear. I forget if his 3rd was off center...
Maybe I just got lucky and someone babied tranny...
on a different note my justy tranny is dying. I recently lost fwd now it's a rwd justy! Does anyone have a good suggestion on an economical way of fixing it? This is it's 2nd tranny and the last replacement cost me $500 or so. ($300 for used tranny and $200 in labor)
