Hello all...
I am in the process of changing my rear brake pads on my 97 legacy GT. I spaced it when taking off the pads...one of the pads, either outside or inside, has a metal peice permanently attached to the pad, I believe this is a wear indicator, that scraps and makes a squealing noise when the pads get worn down. Anyways, I kinda assume the pad with the wear indicator belongs on the outside...easier to hear. But I'm not sure, wasn't paying attention when I took them off.
What do y'all think?

I have another question. My pads came with 6 shims. My book says sometimes there are 1 and sometimes 2 shims. But in the diagram, in shows 2 shims on the inside pad and 1 shim on the outside. Now...there are two types of shims. One is silver/metal colored and the other is black. The silver one has two metal tabs that wrap around the outside (or top, the curved side) of the pad to secure itself. It also had one tab that wraps around the bottom, or inside (straight side) of the pad. The black shims are kinda the opposite. They have one metal tab that holds the shim to the outside (top, curved) portion of the pad, and two tabs that hold the shim to the inside (straight, bottom) of the pad. Anyways, I am wondering in what order I put the two shims on. Whether the silver shim should go on top of the black shim (black shim would be closest to pad, silver on top) or whether the silver shim should go on first, closest to pad, and the black shim should go on top, farther from the pad.
Sorry for all the dumb questions, been a long while since I have done brakes, and havn't ever done rears on a suby before.

The brake wear sensor goes on the outside. On the shims, If IIRC the one that has two tabs on the inside (towards the hub) goes on first then the other one with two tabs on the outside( towards the rim). Does one of them have little vents in it? If so that's definitely the outside shim too. So black then silver. Hope this helped
