Today I took the LT for a drive in the mountains. When I got back, I noticed the brake light was on.
I popped the hood to find that my master cylinder which was about 1/4" below max before is now about 1/4" above min. I look over towards the gently smoking turbo, and see that the area is soaked in brake fluid (that got on the exhaust, hence the smoke).
About how much do these cost normally?
Also, I think my starter is toast. I heard a funky starter-ish noise while merging onto the highway, then it stopped. I tried starting my car again when I got home, and nothing happened.

Junk yard would probably have your prop valve.
Just look for a BC/BF with ABS and jack the prop valve.
One from a BF would be better, IMO.

There are no junkyards around here, unfortunately.
I have been looking for some time, but there aren't any.....

One of my friends has an '02 WRX proportioning valve that he'll let me have.
Would this work on my SS without drastically throwing off the brake bias?

Can you post a picture of it? The WRX is about as biased as our cars are. Pretty front based. I don't know if the prop valve from that would work or not.
I wonder what the brake bias of the WRX wagon is?

Heck.....
I may just try the WRX valve to get it working for the time being, then see about a wagon valve later.

The WRX valve has a different split point.
The 02 WRX has a split point of 285 psi.
The legacy wagon split point is 640 psi, and the sedan is 533 psi.
The reducing ratio is the same, 0.3.
You're going to get a lot less rear braking force with a WRX prop valve compared to one from a legacy

I should have my stock prop valve... had no problems while it was on the car
The wrx one would work technically but I doubt that the lines are routed the same way meaning you'd have to bend or remake your current lines

Okay.......
I found a salvage yard near me. They don't sell proportioning valves.
I checked the dealership. $275 for a replacement for mine. They won't give me the part # because they suck.
I checked with one of the guys up in NC at a dealership. For a '91 wagon with ABS , the part # for the prop. valve is 26874AA010. He can also get it for much cheaper than the dealership nearest me.
So the wagon valve is a worthwhile upgrade for ours?

I think I spent 60 bucks for my new wagon prop valve. I can get you the part # and what it "should" cost when I get back in town mid week.

Main thing is, mine has ABS. The non-ABS valves are much less expensive.

holy geez! I got one for like 10-15 bucks. Are there no pull-it-yer-self yards around ya?

Nope.
The only ones around aren't u-pull, and they won't sell the valve for some reason.
Also, no auto parts stores sell the valve.
I'm just going to get the valve new since it's important and my parents are picking up the tab (ahh..... the joys of relative youth).

All I have to say is damn....these lil bastards are pricy!
Ok...
All the Sedan valves have been superceeded to the following #, regardless whether the valve was Akebono or Nabco
26874AA042 - $223.48
The 90 and some 91 wagon models came with an Akebono prop valve, that # is
26874AA010 - $243.80
Some 91 & all 92-94 wagon models came with a Nabco prop valve, and the part # has been superceeded to
26874AA052 - $242.07

Is there any difference in the Akebono and Nabco valves?
My car has a Nabco right now, and I ordered the Akebono wagon valve.

I really don't know if there's any difference between the valves.

We'll see....
I guess I'll be the first to find out.

Well.... I picked up the valve today and installed it.
He ordered me the Nabco wagon valve, so there weren't any problems.
I opened up the old one and found some rust. It looks like it just got old and crapped out.
Now to bleed the brakes.......

And anyone as a picture of that valve bcuz i dont know what it's look like!
thx guys going to read some other post about brake system, and i wuld like to thx everyone who take time and build this great site!

We had this discussion in my build thread a while back.
skid542 wrote:Another thing to keep in mind, the wagon proportioning valve does not change the bias before the pressure break point, but rather moves that point further out. So your bias only really changes at higher brake pressures. Take a look at Josh's spreadsheet and this will make a little more sense.

As long as the wagon had ABS, its prop valve should fit your turbo.
