it may, but the hood latch piece is structural

looks like fun... to bad i couldnt make it oh well, looks as if you might be doing it again if you dont finish this weekend is they hood latch in the way of getting it down into place? or just in the way in general? if its just in the way of getting it down, take off the bumper beam or the hood latch and slide it into place. it looks like there is enough room behind the bumper beam for the i/c radiator. if not, do some creative cutting of the beam. hehe

there's no way i'm cutting up my hood latch beam. Went to an auto parts store today and got a heater core or heat exchanger thing from a gm car, looks as though it'll fit like a charm.

Got the plugs changed just a few minutes ago and there's a noticable increase in revving speed. or it may just be me pretending the car's faster in my head. either way, i'm happy with it.


Art'll be back soon from Home Depot, getting stuff to make brackets for the radiator. We're likely not going to get it done this weekend. Gonna take care of the water side of things so I can get the bumper back on, and the car drivable. I have no real need to have the air portion going at this point, i wont have the $$ for a downpipe for another few months, and can't up the boost til i get a downpipe, I also need access to a boost gauge for about a day to get the boost set correctly as well. urgh

I thought you were ditching the A/C system? In which case wouldn't the heat exchanger fit where the a/c rad went?

Is the hood latch itself in the way, or the hood latch beam in the way?

Josh. . . BOTH are in the way. . . but mostly the beam.

I'm trying to convince Laurel (since this will be her only car for a while) that the AC could probably be easily fixed with a used compressor (which Tristan has already offered to donate) as there's ZERO load on the engine when turning on the AC system. (Either the compressor clutch, or the compressor itself. Either way, the condenser is good, and should need only charging once a known good compressor is swapped.

Taking the beam in tomorrow to where our roommate, Tim, works. Many air tools (I need only a compressor to get mine going. . . guess what I'm buying in a month or so) and we're going to cut off ALL the bumper flanges on the driver's side. Maximum airflow to the heater core would be preferred. Then I'm primering and painting the back of the beam.

The heater core doesn't weigh much, but should be very securely-attached, so Tim offered to help me custom-fab a bracket for it while Laurel's got my car at school, tomorrow.

Tuesday, we hope to have the heater core mounted, the bumper back on, and the rest of the front end reassembled once we start the running of the water lines into the engine bay, just in front of the batter (where the water pump will eventually be placed)

I'll let Laurel elaborate on all this more once we've got a more detailed gameplan.

You'll need a new receiver/dryer when you recharge the ac system. It probably wouldn't hurt to flush out the system too.

The JDM kit (as does the USDM kit) comes with switch, lights, bulbs, mounting brackets, bolts, and painted surrounds. It's literally a plug-and-play installation (once you take care of the bumper beam being in the way of the JDM monsters). The cars all come pre-wired for factory fog kits.

Yeah, I'm at work, Phil. I'll get online around midnight our time after I get home from work, though. If Laurel's not got a ton of homework to do before tomorrow morning, she'll likely be on in a bit.
