Help!!!

Okay guys, I need serious help, here. I've removed the airbox and the in-hood bolt hooked to the snorkus, and I've removed most of the passenger's side wheel well cover, but there are these two screws being bitches that won't let me take it all off.

I can't get the Snorkus out because I can't get to the last bolt holding it in. And even if I could, I don't think it would fit through the space I cleared.

What I need is help!!! Desperately! If anybody's in the Ithaca, NY area and is free, personal help would be cool... I'm shit out of ideas, here. If you're in the area, PM me.

Here are pictures of my status:

Damn... well... I guess I'll put her back together, then... the surgery will have to wait for another day. -.-;

But still, any suggestions on dead screws that won't come out no matter how many times you turn them?

why dont you just undo the bolts inside the engine bay and push back the snorkus out of position?

Because then the snorkus is still in the way, and the airbox would be sucking in engine bay air along with the inner fender air. I want a cleaner setup than that, which is why I need the Snorkus out: to get at its pieces. I want the input pipe from it. It'd also be nice to not have the stupid thing just sitting there doing nothing.

You should keep trying, it will come out.
k e e p t r y i n g ! ! !
those little skrews can actually be pulled out, theyre plastic and when treaded into the surrounding plastic, push 4 little "arms" out to hold the whole thing in place
less i cants and more i cans.
dont give up so easy you can get it!

Alrighty, I put her back together, but once I've got time again I'll take it apart and rip at the damn thing. I got one of the three screws out... they're weird-lookin' buggers. It's just those two that didn't want to respond to anything.

So yeah. But this time, I'll have my dad with me so I don't have to juggle so many tasks. XD

I pulled down the front of the fender, and pulled the snorkus down and out of the car, not out the back.

That's just me.

You can always break those plastic screws and replace them, too.

Are you using the intake pipe to grab cold air? That's what I did and attached a tube on that to run to a NACA duct in the bumper in front of the wheel.

Yes those are plastic screws. Just pull the bastards out. Take a screwdriver and pry the head out, then grab it with a pair of pliers.

Yesss!

Okay, today was really sunny and fairly warm, so my dad and I set out to get that darned snorkus out.

He wrenched out three of the claw-screws, destroying two (oh well). Then it was just a matter of twisting out the bottom bolt and pulling it out from the bottom. Opened up the snorkus, did some hack-sawing to the pipe, created a new inlet that faces down and bolted it right back to where the top of the snorkus was. Hooked everything back up and viola, snorkusectomy. She certainly is louder at high revs now! But it's really unobtrusive.

I also got my replacement chrome tips, so tomorow we're ripping off the old clamp and installing the new tips, pulling out the lens assemblies for the rear lights to get out the amber lenses and running wiring for the amplifier. That's all we hope to get done, but mounting the amp would be nice.

Thanks to everybody who said brute force was how to get those suckers out. That did the trick!

Can you post a pic of your snorkus mod? I took mine out, tookthe pipe out of the box, cut it at the bottom of the U, and put the pipe back so the engine will not suck hot air...BUT...I'm afraid it will suck moist air, because the intake is at a much lower point than it was originally...

Yep, I'll post pics tomorrow of my "completed" car, with new mods.

I was originally going to cut at the bottom of the U and leave it, but I agree; it's way low, and could suck moist air. So instead of leaving it hanging (more stress on it like that, too), I hacksawed it some more, creating a shorter pipe that sucks air up into it instead of back into it.

It'll make sense once I post pics.

Oh, and by the way... I reset the computer overnight, went for a drive looking for a shop that'd remove my remaining chrome tip (unsuccessful mission, on a Sunday)... and hot damn. The K&N plus the custom intake really did a number on my car. I was at stopsigns/lights and if I tapped the gas like I used to do all the time, I'd chirp tires. Amazing! I love it.

I live in New England and my intake comes out the front bumper below the black trim line. If anything the car has more power in the rain. The only issue from it is packing the intake scoop with snow which just causes hesitation until I clear it. This problem you won't have as yours is still inside the fender. Your only concern of water may be river crossings, in which case you may have bigger problems anyway. Lots of cars have more direct air scoops without water issues, so don't worry.

Right-o. I might fabricate some kind of ram-air intake in the future, but for now I'm quite happy with the results.

Now to finish my school day... and go find a shop with an impact wrench...

Alrighty, pics complete, but it was too late for me to open up the airbox and get a snapshot of the custom tube. If you took out the snorkus, I can give you a mental picture:

Take the pipe from the snorkus that goes into the airbox. Cut the bottom 2/3 off. That's my pipe.

I'll post the pictures in another thread, and hopefully I'll have some daylight photos of the exterior tomorrow (stupid flash wouldn't turn off, so most of my exterior pics sucked).

(btw, Cole Muffler took the clamp/chrome tip off at no charge. I think I'm gonna add them to my list of cool shops now)
