After installing the MBC last week I finally got around to putting the Diamond Coil pack in yesterday. It was easy except the damn connector's tab broke when I was pulling it off so now it won't lock in. I never realized it would make a noticable difference but it has. I used to smell a little gas now and again but that seems to have mostly gone away now, could be a coincidence.

I have a question too. What kind of crimping tool does one use when terminating the coil pack's female end, or both ends for that matter? I know I could take a pigtail off of a junker but I'd rather see if I can reterminate the connector the right way first.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about reterminating the connector. Are you talking about replacing the connector?

You can remove the contacts from the connector housing. I use a small jeweler's screwdriver. If you look at the contacts head-on you can kind of see the little plastic wedge holding each pin in place. Lift it and tug on the wire, and the wire should come out with the rubber seal and the contact attached. You can get another connector housing from a junkyard.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I know you mean, I'll look at it and see if I can see what you're talking about. I was talking about cutting the wires and putting a new connector on the end because I already broke the connector. If you're saying that the whole wire can be replaced maybe that's easier. I was in a hurry when I did it so maybe a closer inspection will show me what needs done.

Sorry it wasn't clear. What I'm trying to say is that you don't need to replace any wires or deal with any crimping or soldering.

The connector consists of three terminals (that are crimped to the end of the wires), three seals (that are slipped over the wires), and a gray plastic housing that holds the three terminals and seals.

All you need to replace is the housing, since that's the only part you broke. You just release each of the three contacts from the housing and then push them into a new housing.

Maybe I was jumping the gun but it does seem to be running better now.

I like how mine works with the msd ignition. I get pretty good gas mileage which is saying a lot the way i drive.

My car ran much smoother and had better power up high after installing the Diamond on mine. I love it.

I found a Diamond coil pack at the JY, stuck it on the other day and forgot about it. I thought that MAYBE it be an improvement that my imagination would get a kick out of. I live on the top of a steep curvy hill and like to climb it fast from time to time. Well, like I said, I forgot that I even put the thing on and was going home. It really got my attention, I mumbled to myself: "what the hell???...." When I got in the house I remembered the coil pack.
Anybody else feel a marked improvement like this?

I didn't really notice any difference, but that might be because my IAC is drawing power from the Coilpack power supply.

So it might just be evening out.

what year and model subaru's have the diamond coil pack? I went to the junk yard today and they had these coil packs from a 97 impreza that said diamond but no diamond logo and they dont seem to fit my legacy ss because the mounting screws are to far apart

There are two different types of coil packs, ones with female connectors, and ones with male connectors. The first gen legacies have the female connector coil packs. The mid-to-late imprezas have the male connector coil packs.

You can find a diamond coil pack meant to fit your car on 90-94 legacies with manual transmissions and all turbo legacies.

Also the 95-99 Legacies I believe will also have the diamond coil pack with female connectors.
