anyone else on here ride? what kind of stuff do you ride and what is your bike.
I race DH, mountain X, and sometimes XC; DH and mountain X in expert, and XC in sport. In collegiate racing Im in A for DH/mtx, and c for XC. wish I was in better shape
I like steep and technical, both climbs and descents. the more technical the better.
my DH rig is a 2003 Iron horse SGS DH, manitou x vert carbons, XT, E-13 and 38t, bunch of different tires around 2.5-2.7.
my mountain X/ cross country bike is a 1999 giant AC-1 with RS dukes, 8 speed LX from 1996

it still runs great and I dont break chains that often. the first XT v brakes that came out, race face cranks with a 22/32/bashring, and a sun ringle back wheel, hugi/rhyno lit front. panaracer firexc pro tires 2.35. I also have a shitty 14" hardtail frame I swap my parts to about once a year for a month or so. I got it for $12 at veloswap

I also ride a lot of BMX, park and dirt mostly. we are finally building some good jumps here. we have a 6 pack of 10 footers, and a mini section that is sorta cool. I'd post some pics of them but no camera.

I used to downhill/freeride, and XC. I also rode BMX back in the day.
I've been riding XC since I was about 10 years old, and stopped about a year ago.
I sold the downhill bike to pay for the Legacy, and I just haven't gotten around to buying a new bike. Plus, my knees aren't in the greatest of shape anymore, so riding again would probably not be so good.
I had an 03 Banshee Scream with an 04 Marzocchi Shiver, Hayes Purples (8"), Raceface NorthShore DH cranks and an MRP LRP, LX drivetrain, with a hacked and custom rear derailuer. Answer Protaper bars (2"rise) and Raceface diabolous stem (50mm). I rode on a PIMP Hadley 108 rear hub, and a Marz 20mm front hub, built into Rhynolite XL rims with double butted spokes. 2.5" Kenda Nevegal and Blue Groove tires and moto tubes.
Weighed about 42 pounds. Not to bad for a SUPER solid 8" bike. Took 6 foot drops to flat, and 15 foot drops to tranny without even flinching. I used to ride this one stair tranny at school, oh man. Just haul up to it, hop up a curb, down a flight of stairs to land on the next set. It wasn't big (maybe 5 feet), but it was wide open, so everyone on campus could watch me strut my stuff.
I would ride to class, and bring the bike in with me, full face helmet strapped to my bag. I got some funny looks from my professors, I tell you what.

I just do recreational mountain biking, no real competition although I'm looking to get into some of that in college. There aren't alot of great places to MTN bike around here but I plan on taking a trip out to Snowshoe at some point. The best biking I've done is in New Hampshire. I ride a custom bike I built myself.

I need to get back into mountainbiking.
Won't be able to get a bike until I pay some things off, though.

I do lots of racing, went to Collegiate nationals for Road and MTB. I'm only a cat 4 roadie...that road stuff is just for training but I've really taken to the Criteriums...It's like 200 beats per minute auto racing. I race Expert XC and Short Track(my specialty on and off road) and Sport DH/DS. But I do my fair share of recreational riding lots of Urban Assault/Trials and I've got a fully rigid fixed gear MTB that sees lots of miles. The bike list: 01 Klein Quantum(pretty 16lb roadie), 04 Klein Attitude(beaten to hell 20lb XC), 96 Klein Attitude(Fixed gear fun), 03 Kona Scrap(Hard tail from hell), Fetish Discipline(Loaner/GF's bike), and various others at any given time.

I used to BMX and later MTN bike and stopped because my dancer ex claimed she couldn't do it because of something to do with her hips and ballet ... I don't know. Then we broke up and I rode for a few years, but now I hardly ride anymore as I have some damn vertigo problem and I get dizzy and sick after a short distance (like motion sickness). When the bike is in the cycle-ops I can pedal all day (well until I get bored) without a problem so I think it has something to do with balance and I guess I won't ever be getting a motorcycle either. Doctors are useless. I mostly road bike anyway as that bike is better and mountain biking makes it worse than the road bike.

yep.
I have a 91 Trek that I've had for ... well, it's kind of obvious. Once I rolled over the computer (10,000 miles), I decided to buy a new bike and chose a Cannondale Cyclocross. I've never raced the Cannondale, but I did race the Trek -no suspension and slicks; it's a commuter bike- a couple of years ago just for the hell of it after riding to a rice expecting to watch. I don't know where I placed, but I won't forget the thrill of riding up steep muddy climbs past guys pushing bikes with mud-clogged knobbies and hearing "shit, he's using slicks".
I also remember the hydrocodone prescription from an accident at that race where I just rode off the trail not knowing where it went, off a drop, upside down, with my bike on top of me.
Any commuters/tourers here?

Snowshoe is awesome. Platekill in NY is also fun.
I rode at a local ski resort for about 20 minutes, then my friend broke his leg on the DS course.
That was my last bike trip, I resorted to Urban only for the next few months, then I was done all together.

I used to have a friend who I went riding in the mountains with in orange county at least every other weekend, but now he goes to law school up in the bay area, so that doesn't happen much anymore. I've got a cheap K2 that I use to ride to class. I would use my friend's dad's GT i-drive 2.0 when I went with him in the OC. That was nice. Then the last time I went with him down there he separated his shoulder. That was a fun hike back to the car and subsequent ride to the hospital.
I took my K2 out a few times last summer in Montana, and it put up with what I did to it surprisingly well. I also rode it a few times in Santa Cruz last fall when I was up there, with the same friend from the OC.
I was about to buy a bike last semester, I wasn't sure about road or mountain, because I have a friend with a road bike here, and I figured I'd be getting out more often than with a nice XC bike. Then one of my student loans didn't come through until this semester, then I bought some stuff for my car, so now that's on hold for awhile.

My modest mountain bike:
Started as a schwinn a long long time ago... it is now full custom. One summer I just all of sudden was fearless enough to try more stuff. My favorite is clearing steps and endos. I've done drops up to about 6' onto concrete flat. Needless to say, stuff started to break on the schwinn... and then I'd replace with something nice. Then I bought a new frame and Manitou Black Elite 100/120 all ready to swap over all the nice stuff. Then I snapped my old frame in half

. Fortunately I was just riding normal and dropping from a 6" curb back onto pavement. And thankfully I had the other stuff ready to go. I love the manitou black, it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and has saved my butt a couple of times. And I love my front disc brake, nothing fancy, just a Hayes mechanical, but it does great for what I do.

I ride for fun... but I have a Raleigh. It's the M50, I think.. All stock, except for two sets of rims/tires. I have michelin Hot S tires, in red, to match the red swatches on my bike. Kinda rice. I ride mostly urban, I enjoy stairs and things like that, but my mtn bike just seems more fun than when I used to ride BMX, although I've been wanting to get back into that, only with a 26" cruiser and maybe a 3sp on it, if the track allows..

are you thinking of that old mongoose race bike that had a 3 speed on it? I think it was brian lopes or mike king's bike?

I took my Kona to the BMX track this summer and was able to weasel into the cruiser class and it has an 8spd drivetrain 8in disks, and a 5in travel fork. The class was small and I intentionally uncompetitive (god help one who pisses off BMX parents), I was there just to ride the track and try out a starting gate. Nobody really cared, I was like a side show to BMX’ers.

i have been riding for about 12 years. i used to occassionally race, and did well...now i just ride to get outside and stay in shape, but its still a blast, especially after a shitty day of work. i ride XC and i dig the technical climbs/descents. i ride a 97 GT pantera. i will never ride full suspension, my personal policy is find something good and stick with it...so i just keep dialing it in and making it better.
XT derailleurs, LX cranks and v-brakes, swapped out the LX rapid fires for some LX thumb shifters, rebuilt wheels with XT hubs and ritchey rims, etc. etc. finally blew out my first gen judy XCs so its time for some dukes.

Yeah, I have a full suspension bike, but if I ever fix this vertigo deal I'll be getting a hardtail.

you built the frame? if so that is sweet. there is a small bike shop here in ft collins called road 34 that the owner builds frames. Ive always wanted to try it, but my lack of a welder/notcher kinda puts the damper on that.

On Monday I'm going to order one of these as my new XC race frame, my current one is really beaten to crap. I really like Kona's geometry, and the Primo is made of Scandium. Scandium is really mostly Al but this alloy is quite a bit lighter without being super thin like my Klein. In a 18in frame it only weighs 2.5lb

It will see some King hubs/headset, some disks (undecided on type), and a Fox F80X or a Marzocchi Marathon Sl, and the rest will survive from the old bike. Should be a screamer, I'm already getting the itch for the season.

wow, that frame is really light. Ive always liked Kona, seems like the put out a quality product in all the different types of bikes.
I'd go with that Fox fork, I rode a buddies 125 and it was probably the nicest fork Ive ridden(of that type). not too sure what the differences are btween that and the 80 but Im sure the quality will be there.
Im taking my DH bike on a cross country ride tomorrow, hope I dont have a heart attack

DH-XC, that's the best way to train. Trail riding my freeride bike and the fixed gear have done more for my endurance and form than the miles on the XC bike and the road bike. Not to mention those bikes are about a million times more entertaining. When I was still in Ft Collins a friend and myself had a long term pissing contest to see who could clean Maxwell (behind the football stadium). After a while we could easily clean it on XC bikes, then on SS's, and I made it once on my Kona Scrap. But he holds the title...he road his Foes Mono bottom to top with one dab.
