I have no idea where to post this. I have been off this site a while. Car projects are at a stand still till it gets a little warmer.
I have an idea for a furture summer project. In a nut shell, if I got my hands on a 95 ish manual impreza and swapped over the EJ22T motor, kept the trans. That would make a great sleeper. Problems. Are 95s ODBII? Not sure what ECU I would use, I guess I could swap the legacys wiring and ecu?
My legacy as some rust issues to the point where it would not be worth making a sleeper monster of my dreams.
Bad idea?

95's ARE OBD2. Now would be a good time to go with some form of engine control.
A piggyback would be OK, because you would need to keep the OBD2 sensor for inspection and emissions.
A UNICHIP would be cool, but need to be tuned on a dyno.
I have been thinking long and hard about buying my friends 93 Sedan and swap EVERYTHING over to it from my car. It would be an uber lightweight monster, but not as unique or fun as the Legacy...

Figuring out engine controls would be no fun. But picture this car with a 22T swap and 5MT. Throw some sticky tires on it and look out!!

So you mean like this....
With this:
Damnit, now you are tempting me to pick up an OBD1 Sedan. I swear Dan, I get you into the Legacy, your going to get me into the Impreza...

There's nothing wrong with that. Impreza's are super fun cars

Lol, I'm having a hard enough time choosing to keep the Legacy over a LW Impreza Sedan.
If I ever come across a local 93 FWD, Automatic, 1.8L Sedan, I'm going to buy it. And I will swap everything over. I MIGHT consider a coupe, but I dunno.

Don't get me worng, I love the legacy...but mine has some rust issues that can't be fixed with removing windows and stuff. It's not worth it. I have been looking for a 5speed turbo legacy, but no luck for the money I want to spend or they are beat.

Is the engine bay smaller on the 93? Maybe the pic makes it look that way?
BAC: why a FWD auto? Why not a AWD 5 speed 93 impreza?

Dan - The engine bays are the same size. Look above, that's also a 95 Coupe that started exactly like yours. That's also an EJ22T with a WRX IC.
Why FWD - Auto? Cheaper to buy. A 5-mt AWD would be to expensive in the area, but an FWD I can talk down in cost with the "oh, it's only front wheel drive?" thing.
Hell, I don't even want it to run or have an engine if I can find one without.

i just got a 1995 impreza l sedan no power nuthing, the car ways 250lbs less then a impreza 2door RS. my impreza L sedan is 800lbs less then my turbo legacy.
so far my turbo legacy wireing harness is in, the hole wireing harness front to back. its not hard to do but you got to strip the hole car down in and out, its comeing along very well.
snow white 1995 impreza L sedan = 400hp sleeper.

I've seen FWD Imprezas for $1500 in good shape even with manuals.

Wow, its got duct tape on that intake piece just like mine. I'm glad that piece will be gone soon, I looked at it the other day and it has some serious cracks in it.

Maybe I should buy them up and sell them. What would you guys pay for FWD Imprezas? They usually are around $2k, but as I said, I've seen them cheaper.

though the imprezza is a cool swap canidate sooo many people have them. though they are cool theres just somethign so much more sleeper about a legacy.
if you didnt already have the motor id consider the ej20g swap. doch heads and a 16g standard. everythign into an imprezza is bascily plug and play. its closed deck too. buddy of mine droped one in on his seafoam green 4dr took it to the track and ran a 13.4 on the 1.8 5spd stock.
