Timing belt jumped

Scratch me being able do anything fun w/ my car AGAIN anytime soon. Friday night on the way down to a friends shop, the timing belt jumped on the Legacy. Well, the 2.5 is an interference engine so the valves decided they wanted to get together and have a party. The car stopped exactly 37.9 miles south of Bellingham.

Pulled the timing cover off on Saturday morning. Turns out the belt has been walking off the pullies, slowly griding away on the back of the crank pulley. I have about one third to one half of a timing belt left. Hand testing, everything seems to be tight, without play. Theory is the tensioner is bad, but we'll see.

Soooo, I need to find some garage space up here where I can pull apart the engine and eval for damage (anyone have friends/relatives in bellingham that aren't using their garage?). Best case scenario is that it needs a valve job. Worst case the valves hit the pistons and the engine needs rebuilding. If that's the case, then I'll just put the 2.2L back together that originally came with this car.

Fuck.

Is it a DOHC 2.5? If so, then I'd venture to say about a 95% chance the valves hit one another, since I think the current consensus is that all DOHC Subaru's are valve-valve interference...

Mike, I know that comment was directed at me and I stand by my analogy. What you suggest just isnt going to happen.

Yes it is and i'm 100% sure that the valves hit each other, in at least on cylinders 1 and 3.

so it's been a few days, and still no luck on securing garage space for the car. the guy who owns the land where the car is sitting right now is going to drop it off at my place today.

Maybe I can borrow my neighbors garage. We'll see.
