Hey I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify my ECU's.
The first came with my ej20 engine with a silver AWIC, but I'm not sure if is what came with the car. The second ECU I got from a supposed sti from England, but again, I'm not sure

Pictures can be seen here : http://photos.yahoo.com/educateabroad

1. ECU number 1 has K9 on the front with the numbers
so144 00070
a18-000 RM9
Their is a chip(which can be seen in the pics) that has the number f81Kxc09 on it

2. ECU number 2 has G7 on the front with the numbers
22611 ab000
a18-000 RG6
their is a space for a chip, but it does not have the one ECU 1 has.

Any help would be great. I'm trying to decide which one to run in my car.
Thanks
Frazer

Hmm. That first one is some kind of special edition, I think. Its part number isn't the standard 22611xxxxx, and it's got a replacement ROM chip.

That chip appears to actually be a 27C1028, which as far as I know was only actually used by FHI; aftermarket chipmakers tended to use other chips to emulate the rare 27C1028. So maybe this was from an RA model or something? I do recall that RA models had their speed limiters disabled.

22611AB000 is from a 1992 RHD European Legacy Turbo, EJ20 QUAD CAM, B10, ecu p/n 22611 AB000 European RHD, with the intercooled EJ20, according to this eBay auction description:

Hey VR3 where do you get your info on chip number one, the guys from RSLibertyclub say it's like a v1 sti, but their are differences.

I just got my info from what I have floating around in my head.

It could very likely be an STi ECU. All the STi ECUs of this form factor have 27C1028 chips in them. In my mind STi counts as being part of FHI for the sake of this discussion, so what I said above still stands.

One way to know whether it's a Legacy/Liberty ECU or an Impreza ECU is to get it running and monitor pin 4 of the 26-pin connector. The Legacy/Liberty ECU uses it as a control for the intercooler pump, so you should see it change whenever throttle position exceeds a certain amount. The Impreza ECU uses it as a radiator fan control so you should see it change whenever coolant temperature gets high or when the A/C is turned on.
