Okay so i'm now probably going to get this 93 legacy.... the plug wires are right on top... and the oil is....well everywhere below the oil fill cap.... so i'm going to take it to the car wash (since its dirty anyway) and spray with the tire/engine spray nozzle.... any objections? and what is that big opening on the right side under the hood about?

Get 2 cans of Gunk and leave your car running. Spray it on while hot, let it sit and then soap the hell out of it. Get real close and blast the shit off. If the car dies, let it sit in the sun and it will be fine.

I say cover as many sensors as you can with plastic bags.
I did the same thing without bags and when I started my car, my CEL came on with 6 codes stored...

you can use aluminum foil for covering the electronics as well. Easier to mold around an object as well.
