Anyone made their map lights not suck?

So the map lights point directly INTO your eyes, and not even remotely at what you're reading. Maybe the engineers thought that the light reflected off your face would be enough. Tough beans for people with dark skin, wearing dark clothes, I guess.. Anyway.. The map lights suck. Has anyone figured out a way to deal with it? I was thinking of drilling a hole and mounting a gooseneck reading lamp..

My lights cast more light into my lap than my face, maybe they're setup wrong? Could they possibly fit on the opposite sides?

Mine are also aimed at laps.

Mine too.

Is it possible you have the wrong bulbs in there or something?

That's what I thought.. but each side is made with one rounded corner such that it won't fit in the other side, or flipped.. It hits me (5'7") square in the eyes, and my girlfriend (5'10") on the nose and cheeks..

The God of Legacies hates you...? Try popping it off and seeing if the lenses are messed up or something, I'm out of ideas, good luck.

edit- your girlfriend is 3" taller than you? that's cool

Weird. I have no issues either. What if you adjust the whole fixture? You may be able to take it out and shim one side to aim the beam more forward.

Seriously.. the god of legacies does hate me.. we just mad a road trip up to have dinner with her parents, and on the way back I kinda dropped the clutch a bit quick on a hard left onto the 101, and my car made a real nasty whining sound from the front right.. sounds like something whining and slipping, then catching up.. SHIT. I'm almost out of money, which puts me about $800 short of giving away the legacy, e-baying the stereo stuff and going back to volkswagens. I love the way she scoots, but damn.. too much is too much.

Maybe you should compare the markings on your map light bulbs to the markings on ours. If you have a bulb that puts the filament in the wrong place it could change the way the light shines.

Take the lens part out, bust out the clear plastic shit with a screwdriver, and put it back in.. it cuts out some of the light, anyway.. I did, and it's been a pretty bright lap for me! *giggles*

Why don“t you take some pictures of the lamp area and let us see the problem better?

Mine are fine.

I kinda wish they did hit me in the face though, since I take my contacts off at night in the car a lot (not while moving) and I have to manipulate the mirror and my head some more to see where my finger is poking to get the lenses out.

QuickDrive, I'll trade you lenses- you can have my eye-hitting lens, and you send me your lap-hitting lens :)

you know what is really weird? I could have sworn my buttons were on the back side of the lights, I'll have to check

what are those switches for anyway?

switches control sunroof.. I never exactly thought they were stock.. but then, I never exactly thought about them period. Maybe when they were installed, the whole console went in backwards..

that's correct, whoever put those in reinstalled it backwards.

Yeah, that would do it!

hah.. well shit. Now I have to figure out how to take off that panel and undo the switches.. does everyone else have their sunroof switches up there too, or are they normally down lower?

Posted: Tue Mar 15, 2005 5:59 am
by THAWA
thats where they are normally, but those aren't the oem buttons. Why dont you just turn it back around? Or just get an oem one?

haha, that thing goes in backward? You can change where the buttons are? Rock on!
I'm doing it. :D
