last time i had my wheels of they were pretty light.

im lookin in on some new 17 inch wheels that are suposedly on the light side 13 pounds.

what im wonderin is how much do the stock wheels weigh to see if ill be loosing any by gettin theses new wheels?

13 pounds for a 17" rim is nuts.

I don't know if I would trust a rim that light. Seems like they would crack really easy.

Which wheels are they?

I want a set of Rota Slipstreams in 17" variety. I don't know if they make them yet, or what, but I love those wheels.

slipstreams are avaible in 17x8. check suby dude for em. imho slipstreams are ugly and only belong on civics in the 16 inch variety

the wheels are volk ce28n's. their forged and the next lightest are ssr comps. so i think id trust em.

so back to the question. how much to stockies weigh??

I dunno, Slipstreams are aquired taste. I love them. Clean, light, efficient, cheap.

Volks are nice, and I'd trust them.

Stock weighs right around 15 pounds, I believe.

for reference, stock 16" WRX wheels weigh between 16.5 and 17 pounds sans tires.

Weight is not all that matters, the distribution of that weight is also very important. The more the weight is distributed aroud the radius of the wheel, (ie: has a lot of space between the spokes or a very large diameter), the higher moment of inertia that wheel has and the more resistance it has to acceleration. Notice that race cars don't have blingin' 20" wheels, but wheels with most of the mass close to the center of gravity.

91White-T, good point. I never thought of it like that. Is that why the Tuner-Style (10spoked) wheels are more popular?

IMO Slipstreams deffinately are beautiful rims for the Legacy, I'd love to have the 17's in black for mine.

I opted with the 99 rs wheels in 16x7 though.

Get 26" floaters. 180 lbs/ea and they have to be sent long distance to get tires put on, but yo, de da shiznit and you can look like a ball player.

steve, that was a little unsolisited. at least im looking at some light weight wheels. that apeal to me at least. im just trying to find out what stockies weigh

I wasn't making fun of you. A friend of mine put those wheels on Dave Givens truck (Patriots player). $13k for a set and he destroyed them.

13 lbs. is lighter than the Forester wheels by a couple lbs.

Did you pay attention to what 91White-T said, Jason? Knowing the weight of the stock wheels won't help you much if at all. Just like other rotating parts like flywheels and such, the important thing is not the weight (or mass) but rather the polar moment of inertia -- the square of the radius integrated over mass.

This number is nontrivial to guess at. But let's assume for the moment that the stock wheels and these 13-pound 17-inch rims you're looking at have the same weight distribution, and that the stock 15" wheels weigh 16 pounds (I just pulled that number out of thin air). The polar moment of inertia of the 17s would be something like 13/16*(17/15)^2-1=4% greater than that of the stockers. If the stock wheels were 18 lbs, it would be 7% less.

So without knowing anything else, it seems that the wheels alone have a good chance of making little noticeable difference.

ive heard of that but never really understood it.

i kinda get it now but the main thing is that i dont want to loose power due to larger and mostly heavier wheels like many people complain of. i mean i have had 17s that weighe upwards 25 but that car was slow to begin with so it didnt bother me too much. im really goin for performance with a little bit of looks on this car and am just tryin to find out how these wheels will effect me

It really doesnt matter much, but wheel weight is significant in terms of unsprung weight. Its not like sticking in a solid rear axle, but it will work the suspension more.
