OK, so the '96 heads have the roller rockers, but what else accounts for the stated HP increase over the earlier EJ22s? Is it cam profiling and/or bigger valves? And most importantly, are these heads dual port heads?

I thought it was the 97 engine that made more power, and that it was primarily due to slightly higher compression...

The 96 ej22 heads are roller rocker, and have larger valves. They are not however dual port exhaust ports.

Are you sure about the 96 EJ22 having roller rockers? I have an EndWrench magazine that says the 97-up EJ22's were Phase II, which included these changes: roller rockers, a bump in CR from 9.5:1 to 9.7:1, and thus becoming an interference engine...

I read here someplace that the '96s were roller rocker. So do the 97 up have the larger valves along with dual ports?

So that's why everyone goes to the 2.5s, then.
