Really bad news for ej22t rebuilders

I just spoke to the service person at my local subaru dealer which I had run all the part numbers and he said there are no oversized pistons in the U.S. for the ej22t.

Which means you have to get custom pistons made.

This really sucks for anybody that wants rebuild a block on a budget. :(

IIRC a set of custom forged piston are actually going to run you about the same price as new OEM ones. Food for thought.

cp pistons sells stock pistons for a $100 a set.

And subaruparts.com has them for a little over that.

Oh really? I thought they were around $400. Sorry, I guess I'm wrong. I thought Morgie said that back when he was looking for pistons.

In fact, Forged pistons are about the same price as OEM ones, especially if it's a set "off the shelf".

for custom, CP Pistons was asking, if i remember right, 135$USD per piston, rings, pins, locks included.

stock pistons are like 80$ each + rings($$) + pins + locks.

We NA block guys are lucky. Only about $117 for 4 pistons and pins and $43ish for rings.

TDGkorn,
I may be able to offer a low budget solution to you. If I ever get around to building my EJ22T, I will be overboring and getting custom pistons made. I would consider trading you blocks with a cash outlay in my favour...

Have you cracked the block?

If so what kind of shape is it in?

I may be able to stop by this weekend to take a look at it.
