http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html but it seems the underside of my car looks compleatly different than the one in the pictures. i own a 1992 legacy SS 5MT. could someone please help me, i've read all the forums i could find but still no luck. any help would be greatly appriciated.

they might be taped up with green tape to a harness either on the right side near the obd plug or on the left side of the steering column taped to one of the harnesses that plug into the ECU. If I'm not mistaken they should be on the right.

If all else fails you could just jumper the "test mode" and/or "read mode" pin(s) of the ECU to ground directly.

Refer to these pinouts:
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/ecupins/
Connecting pin B56.12 to ground is equivalent to hooking up the black connectors.
Connecting pin B56.13 to ground is equivalent to hooking up the green connectors.
