It just now hit me that Subaru does not make a convertable. I know they sell alot to people in the colder places but it gets warm there too.

Anybody ever thought about this?

There was a concept Impreza convertible in the 1995 Tokyo Auto Show, called the Impreza Operetta.

If it hadn't gotten so late, Vikash were going to turn a 91 Legacy into a convertible. But that link solved it all for me.

God could you imagine a baja convertable. Ooh thats an ugly image. Did operetta come with the all blacked out side molding?

legacycontinues - that EA81 is a conversion by an aftermarket comapny. I almost bought one, but it was badly rotted (that they attempted to cover with undercoating). I've seen at least three of those and several fake convertibles that look identical until you look inside. I can't imagine how flimsy it would be, though - the ones with roofs were pretty weak. I guess if someone were used to a Fox Mustang, then it wouldn't be too bad. The original hardtop version of that car is my dream Subaru.

I plan to build an XT speedster some day, but that will be a whole hell of a lot better looking than lopping the top off. Think of early-sixties sports racers as inspiration, but with an interior as unique as TVR's.

That Picture THAWA has looks sorta like a 2nd Gen Mazda RX-7.

It's ugly.... but I would drive it just so people would ask me, "what the hell is that?"

Those side pipes look just plain ugly too...what were they thinking.

There was the scrambler concept. I thought i looked great. WRX underpinnings as well. I think people are turned off by the bleach blonde and gay thing that's attached to roadsters, but i wouldn't let them steal the fun. The added sensory input is really cool.

I don't think subaru will come out with a convertable. AWD and convertable doesnt make sense. AWD is a logical choice for 1 foul weather cars and 2 high power performance cars

1 why would you want a convertable foul weather car?

2 high performance cars are light and rigid, a convertable is softer because of lost roof rigidity and heavier because they stiffen the floor in an attempt to compensate

With this in mind, it's my opinion that convertables are frivilous, and subaru so far has cultivated an image of being un-frivilous.

The only AWD convertibles i know of are from VW group, go figure.

You've got it backwards, VW owns Lamborghini. VW and Porsche only share suppliers.

there's also the 3000gt awd convertible.

I was looking to see if they made a celica all-trac convertible, but haven't found it yet.

Werd to Hardy on the pic link, I was hoping someone would shut it down with that.
It was an impreza, though? Looks pretty legacy to me...?

Porshe and VW are actually controlled by the same family. Piech (who just retired from VW a few years ago) is a direct relative of Ferry Porsche. That's why they have such a close relationship.
