Hi all,
my NA to turbo car is going well.
I just wanna reduce some temps a little.
I have Borla Stainless stell headers on right now.
Also my downpipe is alittle close to the firewall too.

I planned on buying a 2x50 black DEI heat wrap and wrapping the headers, and the small area where my DP is close the to firewall.
I do know that wrapping the downpipe is not good nor necessary.
And I also know that my header warranty will no longer be good.

But is stainless steel headers okay to wrap, I dont see any snow down here in florida, so I shouldnt have to worry about to much rust.

What do you think?

I thought wrapping the downpipe was good. The hotter EGTs increase the velocity of the gasses and improve flow.

no I was told not to do that.

Wrapping is a very good idea, but ceramic coating is even better. Who told you not to wrap the DP, and what reason did they give?

exhaust velocity. It was discussed on a local forum here. This is what I was told:
"You want the hottest possible gasses before the turbo and the coolest possible gases past the turbo in order to promote spool."

also people say their spool and times were less.

So no real downfall with wrapping the headers? no weakening them or any cons?

You should wrap the manifolds, crosspipe, header, and turbo.

Don't bother wrapping the downpipe. I seem to remember talking with a tech, saying that it provides no real benefit. You DO want it as hot as possible from the heads to the turbo. Post turbo, cooler is probably better, but wrapping isn't gonna make a wicked difference. Exhaust gas is fucking HOT at the downpipe.

I've read the thread, and the wrap is just one factor with the car. Many people have used wrap on all different types of car, and ceramic coating is increasingly popular. If it's a widespread problem, no one is talking about it.

the reason the warranty is voided is because a wrap can make the headers get so hot that they may crack and warp.

well that is whwat I dont want, a cracked header. So them being stainless steal and made by borla, would I have a big risk of that occuring?

i wouldnt mind ceramic coating at all, just costs a bit more, and I would be without a car for a few days.

My Borla headers cracked right around one of the brackets, but it's pretty easy to have it re-welded.

Ceramic coating usually has to be done when a part is brand new, or when it's been cleaned to a point at which the surface is extremely clean, making the coating of a used part rather expensive.

the wrap can cause issues....I've heard of people having cracking issues.

If you bought it from a Borla dealer, dont worry about cracking them. We used to deal Borla, and they are awsome about warranty issues.

okay cool, yeah I am not too worried, but if it is a serious problem then I will reconsider. But I am going to go through with it anyways.

My suggestion for working with the stuff, is treat it like insulation. Old hoodie, dust mask, and gloves, all sealed up like. The fiberes get on your skin, and gets quite irriatating.

Anyone have any imput about them soaking with gas and igniting?
