92 exhaust options

I searched and found out that almost every wrx part will fit on a legacy, but what about the new STI parts? Will just about any exhaust system work for my 92 SS? Specifically, Injen and Greddy systems. Does the system I order have to be for the WRX only, or will the STI fit? And what about up/down pipes and an intercooler?
Will all of this make a noticeable difference in acceleration/top end?
Thanks
Brad

Any will fit, but you need to lengthen the axle back.
If you are going to spend the money on a brand name exhaust, get a good one. Stay away from Injen for exhaust. They make sub-par intakes, and that's about it.
Stick with something good. The TurboXS non-RFL setup is probably one of the best kits that I know of.
Custom will be cheaper than any bolt on kit for the most part. Buy a good downpipe and custom build the rest.

the turboXS system will not bolt directly on to my car? Ok and custom exhaust fab...isn't that quite expensive?
I definitely want a mean sounding exhaust that doesnt sputter, and makes actual horsepower gains.
Also, can i change the muffler on a brand name exhaust?

I second the notion to get a downpipe and have a shop fab the rest. I was quoted $350 for everything from the downpipe back in 3 inch mandrel bent steel. That same stuff would be twice that in a name brand set-up and still not fit perfectly.
So, I bought a 3 inch downpipe and am having the rest made for me. That way I know it fits, and I get the muffler I want.

No brand name WRX exhaust will bolt up. You'll need to add about 8" to the axle back and relocate some hangers.
A custom fab will be cheaper, for sure.
You will probably not see any gains over stock until you start adding boost and intercooler's and whatnot.

its actualy about 6 inches and if you want you can do the ebay ssautochrome tbe for really cheap. it has the o2 in the right place and fits fairly nicely in there.
search my username in reviews and picture gallery. the newest posts started by me have info and some pics of what it looks like out the back
you also said something about intercoolers. as for tmic. modification to your firewall is nessary as well as y pipe. fmic will not work well if at all. i have seen blitz work but thats the only one. and you take your chances doing that

fmic works fine, just fine. Just takes some creativity (and applying said creativity with a sawzall until there is room), angling the radiator back, and moving the headlights. I should really get a photo of my setup.

Yea, FMIC's are just a factor of creativity and imagination. If you want something to fit, you make it fit. Easy. I don't know how I am going to fit Jakes Monster IC under the bumper, but we'll find out.

Any larger exhaust will help a turbo car. A 3 foot dump pipe would be best, but not realistic. I got quoted $275 for 3 inch if I bring a cat and muffler. I think most of the gains are in the downpipe. Turebo exhaust is pretty straight forward, its the N/A cars that are tricky. They need the scavenging effect.

See the tread below for what I did to my 92, and it seriously hauls with the new exhaust. The costs are in CND dollars

Haha no I'm in Canada. I read the thread about snowjob's custom setup. I was looking at my exhaust off the car today(still in the process of rebuilding ej22t or looking for a short block...incredibly hard to find

) and noticed that there is something like a second o2 sensor right behind the turbo, on the stock downpipe?
I'm wondering just how much gain I would see with a 3" downpipe, a custom fab'd 3" exhaust and a nice, beefy sounding Magnaflow muffler
It seems that with an MBC running 12 PSI, and FCD, and this exhaust the car would be much more free flowing and haul more ass. So, I guess really what I'm asking is will these 3 mods wake up my car significantly?
Also, what is the highest PSI anyone runs on their SS with just the MBC, FCD and exhaust?
Thanks
