Is Beck-Arnley the OEM clutch?

So.. I called my local parts place, and they swore up and down that the listed OEM clutch http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDeta ... 44&ptset=C
was a beck/arnley.. and I'm sure if I call the subaru dealer, they'll say it's not.. and back and forth. Basically.. a lifetime warranty clutch seems like it'll be fine either way, and unless I can find an Exedy for $250 or less...

A lifetime warranty clutch doesn't mean jack.

A clutch is a wear item, warranty it all you want, it WILL wear out. It's like "lifetime warranty" brake pads. Warrantied against everything but wear and tear, lol.

Exedy makes the OEM clutch though, 99% sure of it.

That name rang a big bell. My old mechanic and I had a discussion about clutches when I got mine put and he said that the beck/arnley was stock and that's what he put in. I don't really have any complaints with it. It took a little bit before it settled in, as in I had to make several adjustments at the clutch fork to keep it fully enganging thru a fairly short period of time and then I haven't had to touch in a long while. It holds fine for me and I don't have any slip issues but I'd say anything close to turbo hp levels would overpower it.

so in that case, where's a good place to find an Exedy clutch?

Just do some digging with google. When I did my tranny two years ago, I found a clutch with pilot and release bearings for $156 for my '93 n/a. I can't remember where I got it though.

The genuine Subaru OE clutch is $249 from Boxer4Racing (http://www.teaguesauto.com/transmis.htm, then click "Clutch and Flywheel"). From what I've heard from Dale (at the aforementioned Boxer4Racing) there are two companies that make Subaru's OE clutches, one is Exedy, but I can't recall the other (it wasn't Beck/Arnley, though).

Cool, thanks- turns out my parts guy was confused and was digging for a 98 2.5RS clutch kit.. the one for my legacy is $215, and he said he'll cut that one down so that he for sure has the best price around. Perks of being a repeat repeat repeat repeat customer, i guess.

I am positive that the other company is Valeo.
