Really stupid idea! (re engine mounts.)

So, rather than buying the sti nonsense, why couldn't the penny pinching enthusiast simply cut their existing mounts in half? It would effectively double the stiffness, lower the CG (albeit slightly)and if you did both engine and trans, the only driveline alignment change that would be made is to the rear axle, which surely can handle a little adjusting. Or, if you want to keep your factory mount locations, cut them in half and replace the missing half with a metal plate. Of course you couldnt do this with the liquid center mounts. Thoughts?

Or you could drill holes through the mounts and fill the holes up with epoxy.

That's kind of like what I was planning on doing. I was going to cut out some of the rubber from a set of stock mounts and fill it with urethane casting compound. I still mean to.

Wouldn't the epoxy lose volume as it dries?

Epoxy doesn't dry; it cures.

I don't know if it shrinks or not. It doesn't shrink very much, though... It ought to still work okay, especially since the mounts end up under some compression.

Don't waste your time. You couldn't cut the mounts in half anyway.

As for the epoxy ones.....most of the mounts I've seen were the round liquid filled ones.....you're not really going to be able to do much of anything to them.

Just spend money. it's well worth it.

I'd have to agree, Screwing with the mounts could potentially cause some problems that your probably not going to want.

If stiffness and a lower cg are what you're after just make your own out of metal. It'd be real stiff and you could make it to your own height ;)

It'd have to withstand the vibrations, It'd be like the cabin light in my mom's contour. There was no felt washer or anything put on and it cracked itself out of the ceiling from vibrations.

I have a realy stiff engine mount now. Since I hve the supercharger installed, it tends to flex way to heavily when under load. So I have bolted the supercharger to the actual vehicle. This essentially means the engine is bolted to the chassis. There is very very very little engine movement now. Stiff, stiffy pamela anderson stiffy. And the setup has been this way for about a year now.
