Intermitant wipers, from L to LS. . .

My Legacy L has one speed intermitant wipers and no intermitant for the rear wiper. I snagged the control switch from an LS that has variable intermitant and an intermitant for the rear. It does not change a thing. No matter what setting I put the variable intermitant on for the front the timing is the same, and the rear intermitant acts like the wiper is off. Is there something else that also needs to be changed, do I need to reset the ECU (and why if so), or is the control cluster I have borked? (Note: when I first put it in, it was blowing fuses, but that stopped when I pulled the column down to look for the crushed wire that I was sure was there. . .)

usually the switch is just a switch, and there is a also a relay that does the real work here. I believe you lack that relay, yours is a simpler version very likely. I don't know the specifics for the Legacy but this has been the case on any other car I've messed with.

Hopefully all the connections are there

Usually the wiper stalk has the relay part built-into it. I did this swap of stalks on my 96 maxima and my 93 Legacy turbo and both stalks worked fine ( and added the intermittant ability). As for a wagon, it should be the same thing, so I have to wonder why you are having issues. What year car is yours?

Mine is a 92 wagon. Perhaps the electronics on the variable intermitant section are burned out? What is the likelyhood that a new stalk would fix the problem? the stealership wants $130 for it. . .

Sorry for posting this in the wrong place, used to USMB where anything legacy ends up in the same forum.

I am not sure that it should cost the $130,

Here is my post here on what I did: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... highlight=

You might take that number to the dealer and find the wagon one.
Or If you go to the rs25 forum, they have the correct part number posted.

( or I can post the important stuff like this: )

and the most likely part number for an adjustable switch to fit 1993-97 Impreza is 83113AC480/83113AA520 (sedan/wagon). They are listed for Legacy LS through 1993, supposedly w/o airbag, but all '93 must have had one, for the driver anyway.

OK, that is what I did, so my stalk must be burned out. . . I'll be considering getting a new one now. . .
