Guess who's back.

Wooo. Tonight the SS rolled was lowered off of the blocks and taken for a drive with the new engine and rebuilt transmission. Feels really weird to have 3rd and 4th gear again. Pulled out of the driveway and bam, back to blowing the intercooler piping off. Haven't been able to really step on the gas yet but hopefully in a few days i'll have the kinks worked out. Steering wobbles a bit too and i need to put the little mount on the linkage and fix the wiring problem with my guages. But hey, the car is running and driving again.

Sweet! Feels good doesn't it? My clutch is slipping so bad since I got the swap done that I can't even go on boost, so I know how you feel.

This would be kind of ghetto, but could you maybe use a tailpipe expander to widen the last centimeter of each piece of tubing? Then if you force the coupler over that and put the clamp on the narrower part of the tubing, you'd end up with an approximation of a rolled bead.

I've managed to fix it for now but I'm probably going to need to get them flared. That would definately keep them from coming off. At least I hope so.
The turbo on the car right now is the stock one. I need to fix the current issues with the car before I can install the kit. I don't think that fmic's were made to go with the stock turbo. Also I need to fix the transmission mount on the driver's side because the nut inside of the car broke the welds. Same with the passenger side but I managed to fix that one already. Also forgot to hook up the speedometer but i fixed that today also. I must be having failure of memory at a young age.
It feels really good to be driving again. But the car isn't as fast as it was with the 16G even with the boost at 15psi and cams but that was to be expected I suppose. Oh yeh, forgot to put that little rubber mount under the shifter so the shifter kinda sags and now i can't find the stupid thing. I guess its gonna be another trip to the junkyard for me as soon as the snow stops.
One other thing, the new engine idles pretty high, at about 2000rpm, occasionally it drops to 1500. Should i mess with the screw on the throttle body even tho the idle is supposed to be controlled by the computer.

No, you shouldn't mess with the screw unless it was already messed with and you think you can get it back where it was. The first thing I'd check is the throttle cables... It's possible one is hung up on something, holding the throttle partly open.

flaring would work. personaly i used t bolts and hairspray. actualy hairspray will work great with regular wormgears.

How does the car run with the cams? Have you set up your ITC and your SAFC2 yet?

Mine has been idling like that too ever since I got it swapped.

I don't know what's wrong with it. I haven't had a chance to trouble shoot it yet though either.

Mine idled like that when my IAC was bad. Never threw a code for the longest fucking time though.

The car runs fine with the cams, can't really tell a big difference since I'm on the stock turbo at the moment and I'm used to the 16G.
I called today about getting the s-afc II installed because i dont really want to mess with it. MAC autosports said its 65 dollars. Which is a good deal considering the subaru place wanted 150 dollars.
Where is the IAC on the car and are there some ways to check if its bad?

This may seem stupid, but.....
Make sure the screw for the basic throttle cable adjustment is cranked down ALL the way. And then make sure the throttle drops back all the way by physically pushing down.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Good to hear it is running. Did Joe do your new piping for you?

No, I try to stay away from spending unnecessary amounts of money.
I take it back on the cams, now that i've gotten a chance to play with the car, it is pretty noticeable. It seems the car hits 4k rpm then just takes off and pulls pretty hard until redline even with the stock turbo. I was messing around with a ford f350 testing it earlier today.
I've got an apointment to get on the dyno this next wed at 9am to see what the stock turbo and cams and other mods are doing with the car. It was only 20 dollars for the dyno run.
Then Wed afternoon at 3pm i've got an apointment to go to MAC autosports to have the s-afc II installed.

Nice, glad to hear she's running again and that your cams are worthwile. I'm anxious to see your dyno slip.

MAC's good people. Not only do they know their shit, they are really friendly. Let us know how the dyno goes.
I'm saying about 152 WHP.

I'm getting about 15 psi then it quickly drops off to about 7 psi towards the end of the gear.

Well, they are saying that up there WRX's are doing about 150-160WPH stock. If you're tappering like that then you're probably looking at about 120ishWHP.

I don't think the stock turbo is enough to keep the intercooler and pipes pressurized. From what i've heard and seen, the wrx's third gear is pretty weakly geared. I dunno what i'm hoping for but im figuring for fairly low numbers.
