Wheel Well Coating

Not sure if there has been a thread on this but as I was washing my wheels today I noticed that the protective coating on the wheel wells was coming off. I guess the coating was black and there are white spots where it is peeling off. I can sometimes see it esp. with the back wheel wells and it bothers me. Just wondering if there is a way to recoat it and if so what material is the coating? I'm doing it for cosmetic reasons but I guess its there for a reason. Any thoughts?

There is stuff called rubberized undercoating at your local parts store. I used that stuff. Works great.

that stuff sucks. Use the delaney family special... three parts blind nailing cement, one part varsol solvent or paint thinner, mix well, use shitty brush to paint on

we have cars where this was done 20 years ago, and you can still make a slight impression with your fingernail, it never becomes brittle

the rubberized shit doesn't stick nearly as well, fails to fill cracks and gaps well, and tends to harden and crumble after a few years

blind nailing cement is the stuff that comes in buckets, used for putting a stripe on shingles for very steep roof applications, Home Depot should have it

undercoating for pennies

Excellent suggestion, Prof! I have to re-undercoat every year. I'll have to give that stuff a shot.
