Occasional cranking with no start?

Occasionally cranks with no start, unless gas pedal held down while cranking.

Wild guess: injectors or O-rings leaking raw fuel into the cylinders? Seems to happen more if ignition turned to ON and left there awhile before cranking. I can pull the injectors, and have them cleaned & flow tested for $25 ea. Are they as easy to remove/replace as they look, and are any brand FI O-rings OK or best to stick with OEM ?

So it cranks all the time correct? It just doesn't start unless you hold down the pedal?

It's probably your coolant temp sensor. It's a $20 part if you buy it from one of the online subaru dealerships.

Thanks...my Legacy (and my RX, too, now that I think about it) has the same issue, I just never got around to asking about it. It turns over fine, but many times won't actually start unless you floor the gas (thus I had assumed it was just flooded or something, as IIRC flooring the gas on startup cuts the fuel in a fuel-injected car). Considering that cold starts are usually when this happens, a bad coolant temp sensor would make sense.
