has anyone put a set of 13" rims on their subaru. if so what were they off of because i need a set for racing on an oval track. tested it out last night at the track and the rpm's were barely hitting 5000 the easiest way to get my rpm's up and cheapest that i can think of is to go from 14" rims to 13". its a 1990 legacy non turbo and FWD... if anyone has any other suggestions i'm open to try em out.
thanks.

slap some low-profile tires on the 14's

Why do you need the RPM's up?

Your RPM's will be up, but not your speed.

the lowest profile 14" tires allowed are 65 series so that is why i was going to go to the 13" because when i'm coming out of the corners the rpm's are about 3900 and down the straight i hit about 4900 rpm's. would like to get the rpm's up so i have a bit more power. just wondering if any one know's if a 13" would even fit on the car? or do you have another suggestion to get some power?
thanks guys

I doubt it would clear the brakes.

Sault Ste Marie - sweet, I have a meeting with a weapons smuggler in my second novel set there.

ok going to the junk yards tomorrow to see if i can find a 13" rim to fit the car. i guess i'm the first to go for a smaller rim. hopefully the 13" will fit i'll post how the car does at the track, first race next friday. Any other suggestions to make the car go faster would be greatly appreciated. ( i have done nothing to it yet)
thanks

What size rim is the donut? Might help in determining if things will even fit.

My stock donut is 14". I really doubt 13's will clear if they can even be found in the right bolt pattern and offset.

13" rims will not fit over the calipers at all......not even close....

Unless you swapped all your hubs off of a base Impreza and took the 13" wheels too...

the stock brakes would have to be DOWNgraded for this.

got a set of 13's to fit, just ground down the calipers a bit and shimmed the rims to come out a bit further. going to try it out this friday at the track. thanks for all input......

Yeesh . . . oval racing a Subaru is like taking a hooker fishing. Need I say more?

you must have found some 13" dodge/chrysler rims.

i think this could be a pretty fun bomber class car, or whatever the class is called. low CG. decent power to weight.

hell he will probably win more money oval racing a subaru than he would win in a million years of rallying the car.

and even if it is oval racing seat time is seat time.

what mods are allowed to the engine in this class?

if you can youe should get some new cams. i belive delta cams has some good cam profiles for regrinds and their turn around is pretty fast.

you should try our high comp hybrid ej25 block w/ej22 heads if the class allows swapping. matt monson built one and i was going to build one before i bought my sport sedan.

good luck and keep us posted. dont let art discourage your spirits. he's old  (says the 30 year old) :P

I'm not discouraging the oval track racing, either, I just don't get the point

The point is to just go and have some fun while running the S$#t out of a car.
Also i still have the problem of not enough power coming out of the corners, about 4000 rpm ish and only getting to about 5000 rpm down the straight. any other ideas would be apreciated to make this subaru go faster. is it possible to put smaller gears in? diff tranny? little NOS hahaha
thanks guys for your input.
i also had some fun and cut the exhaust off so we will see how loud that is tonight as well. ( about one foot of pipe remains on each side from the heads)
just a reminder it is a N\A FWD

racing tonight if it does not rain

not too much can be done as far as gears on the FWD box. best bet is what your doing and monkeying around w/tire+wheel diameter.

how much weight have you dropped out of the car?

Everything is gutted and a roll cage is in the car. also cambered the front wheel a bit for better cornering. not too sure what else to do to the car. i just try stuff go and test it and see what happens  any other ideas to try would help also. thanks guys this site is great just found it a while ago.

Remove the mirrors, lower the suspension, flat-panel the undercarriage, tape the seams, and add a pavement scraping airdam (that can be removed with simple hand fasteners). You could even skirt the rear wheels in to save a little drag, but it would make tire changes longer.

is there a displacement limit?

if not, go get a ej25. about 30 more HP and torque.

did you gut the rear door shells? i wouldnt gut the drivers one if i were you though. but i would do the other 3.

does the trunk still have the OEM hinges and lift "springs" and bracing? take that red palstic trim piece off the decklid. its heavy.

does it stil have the glass in it? i would imagine it doesnt. if so switch the rear window and triangles to lexan. btu that would cost more money to do and you want it to be cheap right.

does this racing series you are in have a website?

door panels are all cut out and gutted suspension is very low. alll trim is also gone on the car. there is no displacement limit in this class. I also cambered the right front tire and plannin on putting a camber on the back.
what car did the ej25 come in and how bad to change it in???? would the tranny bolt right on?
going back to 14" rims because i was in 2nd place last night on lap 24 of 25 and the rim broke. the whole center ripped out and the car fell comning around for the white flag and sparks everywhere. pretty pissed but it was also kind of funny.
the exhaust cut off was extremely loud sounded like a 8 cylinder and was probely the loudest car out there. hehe :P
thanks alot guys.

the ej25 was in the outback starting in 97? and the GT starting in 97? too. it then became the standard engine in 2000 in the legaacy and 02 in the impreza.

mat monson knows more about putting a ej25 into a ej22 car. look him up in the engine forum.
