UK is imperial, one would expect the guages there to be in mph. The rest of Europe is metric though.

As these twin turbo babies put out 280bhp as standard, I would expect the clock shows at least 180MPH 8)

True, but this model of turbo Legacy was never officially available in the UK - they are all imports, usually from Japan. The BC/BF was the last official Subaru Legacy Turbo into the UK.

Upshot is the speedo could well be in km/h unless it has been replaced or converted!

Sorry to be a know-it-all...

rescued from Japan jdm 280 tt 5sp wag!

this is going to be a project, but the results should be worth the hassle
I was looking for a month before I found this one, bent, still sitting in Japan, a 280 hp 5 speed 1996 "spec V" (never heard of it before) wagon,
hit in the rear. If I knew how to attach pictures i would, but I couldnt just cut n paste...
anyway should be arriving here in like 6-8 weeks
at that time i will need to ask the question of how to override the governor the jdm models have...

Definitely km/h. See http://vehiclesales.jicconline.co.uk/47103/SL8553i.jpg for a close-up of the speedo on an import twin turbo.

Yes, I know I'm completely sad...
